Do you wash your clothes before you wear them?

My mom told me that you are supposed to wash all clothes before you wear them to get the chemicals they add for shipping purposes out of the clothes and I looked it up and its true.  I am wearing a shirt right now that has never been washed yet.  Do you all wash your clothes before the first wear?

Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't.  Here is an article I found about washing clothes before you wear them:

Always! You never know what's on them, who tried them on before you, etc. It creeps me out.

Same here, and besides that sometimes the chemicals they put in them make me break out in a rash.

No.  I'm totally paranoid about the amount of wear and tear even gentle handwashing causes my clothes, I wash them as little as humanly possible.

Ditto!  Although occasionally I will if I am layering something underneath.

If I buy something that looks like it's been tried on a million times (i.e.: everything on the Anthro sale racks) I will wash.

Generally I don't...my skin isn't very sensitive and I feel like when I wash my clothes I'm simultaneously destroying them.

sometimes. If it smells funny I'll wash it.

I really should, but seeing as the laundry is down 3 flights of rickety outdoor stairs, across a courtyard, and in a creepy basement, I don't. I recently had a Free People tee that I didn't wash that bled all over everything else I was wearing, ruining the lining of my favorite jacket and a white tank top. Now that I have washed it, it doesn't bleed anymore. So had I just washed it first, it would never have wronged me.

Also, I think Laken1 told a story about getting a rash from a new tshirt. That sticks in the back of my mind every time I go to wear something new I haven't washed yet.

Sometimes, it depends what it is.

Usually no. When I buy something I'm usually so excited that I want to wear it the very next day, and often do. If it's something I'm positive I'll keep, and positively won't want or be able to wear in the next week or two, I might throw it in the laundry basket, but even then I don't do it every time.

I almost never do, but I will if it smells like chemicals or looks dirty.  Other than that, I've never had a problem.

Definitely - lots of things are too stiff and/or folded.  I hate that and want to soften it up.  Also clothes always smell like the store they came from and that annoys me - I want them to be fresh and clean!

Only underwear. I love the newness that goes away after the first wash. Unwashed new clothing doesn't bother my skin.

Items from thrift stores and most sample sales i'll wash or dry clean. But I don't wash new items.
