I saw them IRL and, no offense or anyting, I can't allow anyone who is remotely fashionable to own one. They just remind me way too much of the time period when they were last fashionable (?) in 1997/1998.
I think I saw them for sale at esteemed places such as Bradlees and National Wholesale Liquidators.
I would like the look if it was two separate pieces, though.

That's funny-I feel the same way. I don't mind the look but I have an aversion to the "built in" design too!
The built-in thing doesn't bother me because you'll never have to tug your clothes so they sit properly. Other than that, those type of shirts come in and out every other year. If it fits into your style, yay, but I, myself wouldn't buy it.
It's just not working - I have a feeling the built-in thing on a F21 top would be just too obvious, given the quality (i.e. not look like 2 pieces), and the vest-y part looks a bit casual to be over the sharper white shirt.
it seems wrong to deny yourself the opportunity to buy a shirt and layer it with different things every week, but with this shirt, you really have no way to change it up

I'm the same way! I hate "cheating" clothes - I don't want things to appear as one thing and actually be another. I know there are more examples than the button up under the sweater, but I can't think of any, now. I know that they can look better because there isn't weird bunching, and sometimes I absolutely LOVE a sweater with a built in shirt underneath and would totally put it on top of a similar shirt if it was alone... but I cannot bring myself to buy clothing that misrepresents itself.
