Wow, the marriage one is a popular one, isn't it?!

In my more bitter, annoyed moments I've given rather cryptic responses to it.  About how commitment to each other starts long before a legal marriage, and that we don't feel we need a government document to tell us that we are going to be together forever . I don't usually even have to be the one to change the subject after that one!

I get tired of my meddling in-laws asking when we are gong to baptize our son, and there's a 95 year old Grandma who gives me this look and tells me not to wait any longer.  It really annoys me because why are they asking me?  If they are so concerned, they should ask their own son and grandson, my husband.

eta:  I don't ask the kinds of questions some of you have mentioned unless they are to people I know pretty well, but I happen to be one of those people who doesn't mind questions in general.  To me, it's all about the way a question is worded, the intention, if someone just wants to know....typically, I am an open book and love to tell people what's up with me.

Now that I'm married I'm getting a lot of "aren't you a little young to be married?" from strangers! I'm 23! They don't even know me!

Elle - my boyfriend (of 4.5 years) would love you for this.  We were just talking about the subject of how people think it's ok to ask presonal questions like "When are you getting married?" and he came up with a response similar to yours.  We were at his work Christmas party and literally everyone we talked to asked us when we're getting married.  It didn't really bother me because I feel like I'm always getting asked that question.  Ever notice girls are much more likely to be asked personal questions by randoms?  Anyway, I just usually respond with "We're so happy now, why change it."  but I think this Christmas party really got to my bf and he was so annoyed that I really think he might say something like you posted the next time someone asks him.

One other thing I hate about the marriage question is that it makes my question my own happiness.  My bf and I really do have a great relationship, we live together and I'm truly happy and really have no desire to get married, at least right now (I'm 28). But when people ask when I'm getting married and I say we have no plans and then they look at me like I'm crazy it makes me feel like I'm missing something, like I've talked myself into being happy, which, when I'm removed from the situation and the inappropriate question asker, I know is not the case.

Why is it that people think they can ask these questions these days? I just don't get it, it's so RUDE!

Well for a while it was of course "When are you getting married" Which typically I responded to by bursting into tears ( I was tired of waiting for my BF no hubby to propose) so now I now only needed to answer the question but now answer why I was crying

Now we get "When are you going to have kids" um we've been married for like 2 1/2 months ive us a break.

I had a stranger ask me on a flight once how many carats my ring was and then how much it cost uhhhh none of your damn business

I also just love "why did you marry a man so much older than you" he's 41 Im 28 it's not that big of a deal. I usually just respond with " I needed a sugar daddy" inappropriate I know but I love the look on other peoples faces

And I swear to god if when I get pregnant anyone asks if they can touch my stomach will be shot on sight

I may have to steal this one. My BF is 32 and I'm 20...I've been going out with him since I was 16, but people still ask me the "why are you going out with a guy who's so much older than you."

Shoot, it's not my fault he still looks 25.

WHEN ARE YOU GETTING MARRIED (we have 2 kids)

We have been together almost 6 years, we don't NEED to get married just because we have children - but we DO want to get married, it's just hard to pay for a huge wedding when you are paying for it yourself.. we don't have help from mommy and daddy.

p.s. - my parents have been together 30+ years and aren't married.

I just thought of a new one...

Oh, aren't you a little young to be a mom?

Is he the father of both your children?

...um i'm sorry, is it that unheard of for a younger mother to still be with her kids' father?

OHHH one that really pissed me the fuck off.  I was telling some nosy lady at work how I love to buy my kids clothes from Gymboree and Janie & Jack.. she asks me, "OH, DO YOU BUY IT FROM THE CLEARANCE SECTION, OR... ?"

what the hell?!
