Courtney is a bitch and Nylabelle is not and that's why it's okay. We 've gotton lucky so far by not having any trolls but I guess there's always one bad apple. I think she says the things she does on purpose to get a reaction. She's not just a poster here for advice or social reasons.

i kind of agree with kisa in a way.  I am still offended by the first thing she posted a long time ago, but i dont think what she said about ballet flats was very mean.  It was a little odd with the flats in the winter, but not that bad.

We probably ARE being a little too harsh.  She's taking it well, I must say!  I think it's just gotten to the point where everyone is just giving back what they got in the first place since it seems like everyone's pretty much bitten their tongues.  Yes, there are a few times of unfair treatment as Kisa mentioned.  It's not WHAT Cortney says, it's HOW she says it that seems to whip everyone to a froth!

ditto. i agree that she's not the most likeable person...but it's kind of scary how out of hand it's kind of gotten, but i have enjoyed it nonetheless

I'm a little disappointed in how far you guys have taken this.  Just because someone isn't nice to you or you don't like someone doesn't constitute pages of bashing

I agree with kisa and lynnie and etc.

I think this thread should be locked up and a new one be started. This can't be the true stylethread forum atmosphere! Everyone was super sweet up until this point. Let's not let our mean side overcome us...

well all i can say is WOW. courtney really seems to have touched a nerve for you ladies. now i am intrigued and have to go back and read her posts to see if she is as negative as you all say.  i haven't been on the forum regularly enough to know peoples "personalities" so i can't really comment on Courtney, however I did think her post about the flats was a little confusing.  I didn't take offense to it but i wondered what it had to do with the flats question NY was asking.  And speaking of the orginal topic. . .

NY i like flats and there are TONS out there to choose from. in your orginial post you had some basic flats from talbots that i thought were just blah and some flats from payless that were just not quite up to snuff either.  take your time on the flats thing. there are a lot of cute styles in a large range of prices out there. i have some flats from bakers for $15 and some louboutin flats for $600.  the key with flats is comfort (not to thin of a sole like the target ones) and shape.  i find flats like the payless one you showed which have a slightly thicker almost sporty sole make my size 9 feet look like ronald mcdonald.  i'd go to a large mall and try flats at department stores and a few cheapie stores then make your decison. good luck and let us know what you choose. "fashiony" or not flats are something every woman should own as a comfort or a style option.

kisa, lynnie, FP, etc... I wouldn't waste time feeling bad for Cortney. I doubt she'd do the same for you. She has pointedly insulted people on this forum multiple times, and will likely continue to do so unless she realizes that it is inappropriate to act that way. Telling her outright hasn't seemed to work. And actually, there's something about her posts that is very "Lucky Forum" to me. I am not completely sure she's not a troll.

Anyway, to Cortney, if you read this: I know I would love to have you in this forum, if you can recognize that the tone of your posts has been very hateful at times, and work to correct it.

And the real reason I opened this post: Nylabelle, I saw those BP ballet flats on sale at Nordstrom today if you're still looking.

found this on a search:

Sometimes, Internet troll is trying to spin conflicting information, is questioning in an insincere manner, flaming discussion, insulting people, turning people against each other, harassing forum members,  ignoring warnings from forum moderators.
Trolling is a form of harassment that can take over a discussion. Well meaning defenders can create chaos by responding to trolls. The best response is to ignore it, or to report a message to a forum moderator.

I really think this is the best approach.  This thread is an example of success for a troll.  I'm not saying Cortney is a troll, but if she is, this thread may just have been the reaction she wants.  If she is not a troll, I do feel bad for her.  Not necessarily because of all of the comments that have been made (although that is a part of it), but because the things she says belie the confidence that she seems to want to project.

I can't believe all the posts on this. I don't know that Cortney is a troll, but I do know that if this forum had an "ignore" function, she'd have been placed on it long ago - I voiced my opinion of her "attitude" posts (which have been the same since she started posting here) some time ago, as others have done, but she doesn't seem to care. Since there is no "ignore" function here, I just refuse to respond to any postings from her. I don't know why everyone else can't do the same.

If she *is* a troll, then y'all are only giving her MORE reason to return by responding in kind. And if she's not, and she hasn't figured out by now that what she posts - whether intentionally or because she doesn't know how to word her posts any better - is offensive to many people here, then stooping to her level and calling names isn't going to improve the situation. Please, ladies, rise above it.

I don't feel sorry for her nessecarily, I'm just sad at how out of hand this has seem to have gotten.

You guys didn't like Cortney1982's loafers, and most of the people that posted in that thread told her so in an offensive way. It's ok to tell Cortney1982 that you don't like her choice of shoes, but it's not ok to tell Nylabelle? What's with that? -- Edited by kisa at 17:11, 2005-09-10

Kisa, the point is that the way she goes about saying things is all wrong.  And she has done this from the get go. I believe that her first post was on the nasty side.  Maybe she is just being misunderstood, but the way her tone comes across is pretty bitchy.

Of course, I don't care if people say they don't like something. People say what they like and don't like all the time on these forums.  It's the manner in which it's said that is offensive.  I know you weren't around for the Lucky forum days (or the Fashion Hag days, I think), but we have had some pretty bad trolls hanging out on those forums and Cortney1982 comes across very, very trollish at times.  We are all very proctective of the community we have here, so I think it's a bit of 'mama bear defending her cubs' type of thing.  We don't want to have to deal with what we have previously dealt with on other forums.

I just wanted to weigh in on this because I feel like a lot of this was taken out of context.  Most of this particular thread was written on Friday afternoon, after a long week.  Cortney's posts have been really rude for a really long time and we had all been really really good at biting our tongues and not saying anything.  For me, when I read that other people were equally as offended at her posts as I was, I felt relieved and started laughing about it.  Being Friday afternoon, I think we were all a little punchy and eager to have a good laugh, and it felt to me that this thread became less and less about Cortney as the afternoon went on, and more about just having a chuckle.  (Check some of the other threads from Friday afternoon to see the general mood going on here.)

Is this a good excuse for the way we acted?  No, and it's not meant to be...just a bit of an explanation.  Did it go too far?  Maybe.  In retrospect, should we have laughed at Cortney's expense?  Probably not.

There is an appropriate way to politely disagree with someone's personal style or to state an opposing viewpoint, and Cortney regularly chooses not to be polite or respectful.  I don't think she's a troll though, so it's hard to know how to react.  I think in the future, I'll be ignoring her posts, and maybe we all should.

I'm sorry that people were offended by this whole thread.  This is a great group of girls on this forum.  We may have gotten carried away in this case, and I hope this incident doesn't impact the positive atmosphere of this forum.
