i sold an item to someone and i know they got the item, is there a standardized form that i can use to remind them to send feedback...like somewhere on the ebay website? or do i just have to send them a personal e-mail to remind them to leave feedback? thanks, i'm still new to this whole thing.

There is no "feedback" form that I am aware of. Simply click into the auction, then click on the winning bidder's name to link into where it says, "contact member." Doing it this way lets them see exactly the auction you are referring to (who knows how many auctions they have won recently), then just drop them a friendly not; something along the lines of, "Hi, I hope you are enjoying your new item. As soon as you leave me a positive feedback I will do the same for you. Thanks." Or whatever. I know I never, ever, ever leave feedback until someone leaves me feedback first, so sometimes the feedback just never gets left for either party.

I agree with contacting them, I also have a form that I printed out a bunch of - about the size of a post card that I put in their package that says something like "if you are pleased with this item, please don't forget to leave me feedback so others will know" I can give you the exact wording if you care.
Also, if my buyers pay me as agreed, I leave their positive feedback when I am packing items. To me, they have completed their part of the transaction & I think it's wrong to with hold it as leverage until they give me good feedback. You can respond to their negative feedback if they leave it to defend yourself. I have never had a problem, but I know everyone is different.

But laken1, if they leave you negative feedback for no reason, you have no real recourse other than to respond to their feedback and follow-up to the feedback you left them. If someone is just glancing at negatives to positives that could hurt you in the long run. It's better to protect yourself and your feedback. 100% positive feedback speaks volumes IMO.
yeah, i'm not going to leave it until they do. like for the evil dress lady, i didn't bother to ask her, nor am i going to leave her feedback. in my auction, i say i will leave positive feedback when payment is received. should i change it? i just assume that they know that i will leave positive feedback when they leave me feedback (positive).

I guess I just can't imagine someone leaving negative feedback "for no good reason"- has this ever happened to you? I guess if (when) it had happened to me I would feel differently, but I find that most people are reasonable & if you do what you said you would, ship in a timely manner, and sell them the item as described, there is no reason for them to do it other than just out of meanness. Maybe I am just a Pollyanna.

It hasn't happened to me, but when I am checking feedback I see it all the time. Almost 100% of the time it is from an Ebayer with less than 10 feedbacks. Some people are just trying to be mean and think Ebay is a game when they win an auction and never intended on paying. Some people have different expectations (I attribute this to their lack of experience with the Ebay experience - some think Ebay sellers are akin to retailers instead of realizing most are ordinary people basically having an online garage sale). Some people just have buyer's remorse and are trying to figure out a way to get their money back. I have had people not pay me or cause a lot of problems with not following my terms of sale and I never, ever leave negative feedback because I just "know" they will leave me bad feedback just to get back at me.
