So I went to my interview yesterday and I need to know how to write a thanks for the interview but I'd only take it if it was the only thing I was offered type letter.
It was an interesting sounding job but not the route I really want to go down you know. There is also a lot of uncertainity surrounding the office. They don't have a head guy since he died last year, they can't work on anything until the govenor appoints someone and then decides what function she wants them to work in, there isn't even a guarantee that she'll keep this office going since she hasn't appointed someone in over a year. I also didn't like the fact that it was more of a fraud investigative job where I would have to confront the person (plus their boss or lawyers, etc) with my findings if I did find something and I don't need that stress of defending my findings and being discredited.
So... how do I write a nice thank you letter but kinda tell them I'm not 100% sold on the job since if they did want me they'd have to wait till June for me to start and they weren't sure about being able to or wanting to do that for me.
Just write a plain thank you note that just says "thank you. I really enjoyed meeting with you. It was interesting chatting about..." and maybe a little extra fluff to make it at least a paragraph, but don't mention an interest in the job or a desire to speak again. Usually in a thank you letter, you would put a paragraph reminding them why you want the job and what you can bring to the table. Just leave that out. I don't think there is any good letter you can write saying that you would only take the job if you don't get another offer.
I'm sure you will find something else, lsubatgirl. This job doesn't seem very stable and if you are not sure you want it, just put some extra energy into getting a job you do want. I know you already have put a lot of effort into your search, but I think you should just keep at it in this situation. If they were to say they would wait until June to hear your response, you might not put your whole heart into your job search because you know you have back up.
So, I think you should just write a simple thank you, and then leave it alone. If they do call you for a second interview or with an offer, I think you should say no. Unless, of course, they are offering like $10,000 more than you were looking for.
don't worry lsu, something better will come along. and i agree w/ aj's advice about the thank you letter. keep the faith sweetie, we're all pulling for ya.
Thanks for the advice. I just hate the whole process. I do want to say thanks again for all the advice on Fri Esquiress. It is so helpful. I wanted to call back but I got so busy with work and school I just couldn't. I'm going to try to find a slow time before my next interview to chat with ya again.
