Question for anyone with Cingular/AT&T as their Cell Phone Provider...
Permalink Closed

Does anyone here who has AT&T/Cingular for their cell phone provider have, or know anything about their Equipment Protection Program?  I have this on my bill - I pay $4.99/month extra for it, and I'm wondering how it works.  SO's phone literally died last night - it started it where his ear piece wasn't working, and now it's completely dead and black.  So, he needs a new phone.  Will the equipment protection plan cover this?  Will they give him a new phone?  Anyone know the details?  Thanks!

If this is like insurance, then they will send him a replacement phone.

Send him?  As in, we can't just go into an AT&T store w/the dead phone and have them give him a new one?  He literally has no phone cry

Sweet!  So does B just call customer service and they'll send him one, or does he go into a store?

Btw, does G have the same Equip. Protection Plan??

Your best bet is to just call and talk to customer service and ask them if you can go into a store and get one or if they have to overnight one. I have found there customer service to very helpful since switching to At&t

I'm pretty sure that this is the plan that the bf and I have and he's replaced his phone- but just beware, the new phone will cost 50$. I'm almost positive that the BF had to pay 50$ for the new phone. Almost.

Thanks for your help girls!  Farrah and relrel - you were both right. I just found this on the website:

Deductible

$50 non-refundable deductible added to your

monthly billing statement for each approved

replacement request.

Fast

Once your replacement request is approved,

the replacement equipment is shipped to you

and received overnight in most cases

So, I will have SO call and get his new phone overnighted.  Thanks again!

Yep, most of the cell companies outsource this service to a company called Asurion (not sure if ATT/Cingular do, but if not, another company does the same thing).  Anyway, they will send/overnight the phone.  Be aware that in most cases they must send a comparable phone, but it doesn't have to be the exact phone, so make sure that is discussed.  Also, they won't necessarily (and probably won't) send him a new phone.  They replace phones with refurbished, so have him look it over well when it is received and make sure it works well, no scratches, etc.
