St. Barts?

Has anyone here been to St. Barts?  Hubby and I have been planning to go there for a few months now and have finally narrowed our rental choices down to four places.  They're all on different parts of the island and I'm trying to find out which parts of the island are best for sun, snorkelling etc.  The houses are in Vivet, Flamand, Marigot, and and Lorient.  I found a few good websites, but wanted extra opinions.  TIA!

I was in St. Barts on a family trip last spring -- I can't remember where we stayed, but I emailed my dad and will get back to you!  I think you will definitely want to rent a car -- we drove around a lot.  There is some very good (albeit expensive) shopping, too.

Thanks! We're definitely going to rent a car, the owner of the place we're renting said the house is on top of a hill.  I'd love to hear about your trip!  Did you eat at any good restaurants?

We did eat at some good places, but I'm having a mental block on their names!    When are you going on the trip?  My dad was kind of the main organizer of the trip and he's currently out of town, but he said he'd look this up for me when he gets back.  Our house was on the top of a hill too and it made for a great view.

We're going towards the end of May.  St. Barts has so many good restaurants, it's going to be hard to choose!  Did you eat at Carl Gustav by any chance? It's in one of the main hotels in Gustavia, I think.

I finally heard back from my Dad!  Here's what he said:

"We stayed down on the far end of the Island in a place called Petit Cul de Sac. Toiny was the closest small village. L’Orient was very nice; we had a very elegant dinner there one night near the end of our week. Flamands was close the beginning of the trail we walked on where you bonked your head [I hit my head on a low-hanging rock while hiking to a beach]. It looked nice, but was really out of the way. We had dinner at Marigot our first night, also very nice. I don’t see Vivet on the map, but I do see a place called Vitet, and it is right in the middle of the island, so it would not be close to the water if that is important."

We didn't eat at Carl Gustav, but I think I remember hearing it was a good place.
