poll: perfumes, fragrances, and smells

1) do you have a signature scent? - yes, and I'm really weird about it. right now it's VS's "dream angel heavenly" I have this theory that I want to have a smell associated with me, because I love how smells bring back memories. Scents are strongly tied to memories, at least with me, and smelling someone's perfume somewhere else instantly makes me think of them. For example, my good guy friend wears Armani Gio. We used to go dancing together all the time before he moved away for med school. Every single time I smell that on someone else, it brings me back to all the fun we had dancing, because that was the time I could smell it best since we were so close. I want people to have that experience with my scent! And on my sophomore trip in high school I wore a Bath & Body Works lotion the whole weekend, and it was the first time I'd ever used it. Even though I've used it since then, and even though it's been such a hugely long time since then, every time I smell it I instantly go back to sophomore trip. Therefore, I put a whole lot of thought in before I change perfumes, and every time it causes a lot of distress for me. It's kind of dumb.

2) what perfumes do you currently own? I own ralph lauren "ralph", vs's "very sexy", vs's "desire", and vs's "heavenly". I had more before I found out that perfume goes bad in about a year - which explained why I suddenly questioned my previous taste because everything started to smell like old lady to me! So I threw most everything out...which really saddened me because there were a few little bottles of really nice stuff that I saved for special occasions, but I saved them longer than a year and had to pitch them :(

3) do you wear all of them? like I said, I'm very scent-loyal. I still have "very sexy" because I decided to change to "heavenly" before I was done with the "very sexy" bottle. I have "ralph" and "desire" from pretty sizeable samples (at least for me... I can take MONTHS to go through .25 oz!). I wear "heavenly" 99% of the time when I go out with friends or see my boyfriend. Sometimes I'll put on "very sexy" when I'm not going to see my BF (he hates it) but will probably be meeting a bunch of people who I don't know, so the scent-memory thing isn't a concern. I wear "ralph" to work and stuff...I do like it, I think its more suitable for a work environment than my other perfumes, and I'm again not too concerned with the scent-memory thing with my coworkers. "desire" just sits there because I got it for free and don't really love it. I'll probably banish it to replace "ralph" here soon when it runs out, or give it to my mom because I know she likes it.

4) what are your favorite notes/smells? What do you not like? I haven't really been able to pinpoint that yet, I'm trying to train myself to detect things in different perfumes, but I'm seriously lost in that department. I can tell you if I like a smell, but I can't tell you what's in it.

5) any recommendations- perfume, body lotion, candle, etc? Hmmm....not really! I don't know that I'm educated enough in this department...but my most favorite candle of all time is one from white barn that smells like red apples. My mom has it, and when I come home I'll seriously just pick it up and carry it around with me so I can keep smelling it, even when its not lit. I feel like a freak but I'm addicted to it, I swear!

White, by commes des garcones. it's spicy, musky, dry kind of smell that i wear mostly in the winter.

just white. after learning that perfume doesn't last all that long, i threw out all my old stuff and only buy a bottle of what i'm going to wear each season.

4) what are your favorite notes/smells? What do you not like?

i love masculine, spicy stuff and can't stand anything too perfumey, powdery or girly.

the most amazing scented candle/room spray i found recently is essence of john galliano by dyptique.

1) do you have a signature scent? I don't think so... I get bored and so I tend to switch things up.
2) what perfumes do you currently own? 3) do you wear all of them? I only own four, and so I wear all of them. I have Philosophy's Amazing Grace, VS Heavenly, Lolita Lempicka and Bath & Body Works Breathe Calm. I also have a tiny bottle of Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanille Amonde, which I am using up & won't repurchase. During the fall/winter, I wear LL or Breathe, and I wear AG during the spring/summer. I save Heavenly for special occasions, b/c it reminds me of my wedding & I don't want to get sick of it.

4) what are your favorite notes/smells? What do you not like? I don't love things that are overly floral, spicy or smell too much like food. I actually love a lot of perfumes, but my body chemistry must be strange, because a lot of them turn musky/old-lady smelling on me. The notes I am often attracted to are green tea, sandalwood, light musks, light vanilla, almond

5) any recommendations- perfume, body lotion, candle, etc? My favorite candles are usually from Pier1, even though I have some that are "higher end." They have one scent called "Rainwater" that smells fantastic.

1) do you have a signature scent?

I don't think I really have one, I don't like "real" perfumes that much because they ALWAYS smell funny on me after a couple of hours. I usually wear VS body sprays. If I had to choose a signature scent it would be Gap Dream. I've loved it since I was in high school and I never get tired of it.

2) what perfumes do you currently own?

Gap Dream, Some Ralph Lauren one in a little blue/clear bottle (a gift), VS Amber Romance and Pear Glace body spray, Ralph Lauren Glamourous (gift from hubby before we were married, I hate it but won't throw it away) and a lot of sample from Sephora ( I actually like Britney Spears Fantasy, I used it all up)

3) do you wear all of them?

I never wear the Ralph Lauren ones

4) what are your favorite notes/smells? What do you not like?

I love fruity, floral and girly. Fressia is one of my fav. scents, I used to love it when bath and body works carried it (not the clear one they have now, I liked the purple one)

5) any recommendations- perfume, body lotion, candle, etc?

I love VS lotion, the one in the tub in the scents I mentioned above. It makes your skin so so soft. As for candles, I'm in love with the Circle E candles (http://www.circleecandles.com/Index.asp), especially the Bird of Paradise scent, it smells sweet though so beware if you don't like sweet smells. I swear that candle will make your whole house smell good though.

No, I like to switch it up every once in a while.

I have Baby Phat Goddess and small vials of some Paris Hilton perfumes, Curve, and some Body Fantasy sprays.

I wear Goddess often, and my other smaller ones in between wears.

4) what are your favorite notes/smells? What do you not like?

I absolutely love lilac although it is difficult to find. I really don't like anything with vanilla or musky scents.

5) any recommendations- perfume, body lotion, candle, etc?

Although I don't really like vanilla, I love Bath and Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar body lotion. Smells so yummy!

Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel. I absolutely love it. If I could afford to bathe in it, I would. Ha.

Demeter Cotton Candy, Bath & Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar, and of course Coco Mademoiselle.

3) do you wear all of them?

I wear Coco Mademoiselle all of the time. I love the other two bottles but I just use them as back up.

I generally like sweet scents with a just a touch of floral.

5) any recommendations- perfume, body lotion, candle, etc?

Any of the Demeter fragrances - they're so much fun! Also, I love the lotions and sprays from http://www.bodyconfections.com.

Anna Sui's Dolly Girl. Its pretty and girly without being too sweet or cloying.

Dolly girl, Dolly on the Beach (Anna Sui limited edition), GAP Dream, Jean Paul Gaultier and some Demeter fragrances

3) do you wear all of them?

No. Either Dolly or Dolly on the Beach. I wore Dream and Gaultier years ago and now I'm tired of them. The Demeter fragrances just suck b/c the have no staying power.

4) what are your favorite notes/smells? What do you not like?

Citrus, fruity, foody smells. I don't like lavander or rose or any heavy flowery smells. It reminds me of old ladies.

Ikea has these awesome yummy raspberry candles.

I'm probably going to ditch the Burbbery London because it doesn't work with my body chemistry at all...but I wear the others depending on mood and occasion.

I wish I could wear the Euphoria more because I love me some pomegranate but it's too strong for my BF to handle (he's allergic to strong scents and starts sneezing up a fit if I wear this.)...same goes for Lolita Lempicka

The CSP is my summer fragrance...it's the one all the boys like. I wear Fresh Sake and Fracas around BF year round because they're light. I LOVE it when Fracas ends up on my scarves and such...it's so creamy and floral-y on me but not overwhelming.

4) what are your favorite notes/smells? What do you not like?

Generally, I like orientals and white florals.

Jasmine: reminds me of childhood summers in Thailand.

Gardenia: my mom grew some in the house when I was growing up and my nose just remains permanently attached to the blooms.

Musk: without it, no fragrance stays on my skin.

Violet: guys go insane...I get strangers saying I smell clean and fresh and pretty when I wear anything with this.

Vanilla: when done right, I get nostalgic...CSP generally does them right so I'm addicted.

Pomegranate: I just love all things pomegranate...I like that it's not overly sweet.

Hate:

most green notes...they all turn sharp on me or really sour plus they don't convey my personality at all. I make an exception only for Bliss' lemon and sage products...that smell is like crack cocaine for my nose.

5) any recommendations- perfume, body lotion, candle, etc?

I also think everyone should try at least one Chanel fragrance...anyone who smells good in No 5 should OWN it. I hate that I smell like a chemical bath in it.

I also consider Diptyque to be God of candles...I love love Feu de Bois (like being at Girl Scout camp without bugs), and of course Jasmin.

3) do you wear all of them? I don't rotate them all steadily--right now I am alternating between the two Chanels--but I do wear them all. Kate Spade I wear mostly in the summer.

4) what are your favorite notes/smells? What do you not like? I'm very uneducated about this... I couldn't tell you one "note" I like or dislike.

I discovered fresh's lemon sugar scent the other day at Sephora... didn't love the straight-up perfume for some reason, but I must have stood there sniffing the bottle of body wash like a crazed junkie for at least five minutes. It's amaaaazing.

1) do you have a signature scent? Yes. It's Escada Collection. It's been discontinued and is kinda hard to find. It's a warm, spicy scent with notes of tobacco, cherry, cola and sandlewood.

4) what are your favorite notes/smells? What do you not like? I like a wide range of smells but I love floral I guess. I am less partial to citrius and fresh notes. I like them in theory but on the body it smells weird to me.

5) any recommendations- perfume, body lotion, candle, etc?Annick Goutal Creme Splendide body lotion. I don't like Annick Goutal scents that much but the skincare is gorgeous! The body cream was a birthday present and it smells like real roses... not like your grandmother's rose.

Ren Dasmask Rose body lotion is great too

My favorite perfume is D&G's Light Blue, but I don't wear it every single day, so it's not really a "signature".

2) what perfumes do you currently own?

I have a large tray filled with perfume. I seriously need to not buy any more. The ones I have on heavy rotation are DKNY Delicious, Versace Blonde, Gucci, Givency Ange ou demon, D&G Light Blue, Prada Amber (winter/fall only), and VS "Body", which I've had forever but still love.

3) do you wear all of them?

I wear most of the stuff on my tray with the exception of a bottle of VS "Leo" perfume that was a gift and I like the bottle but not the scent.

4) what are your favorite notes/smells? What do you not like?

I like musky-ish scents, sage, greens, light citrus. I don't like overly floral or sweet-smelling scents. I like candles that smell like food, but not perfumes.

5) any recommendations- perfume, body lotion, candle, etc? I always recommend D&G Light Blue because I love it so much. I also like Givenchy's Ange ou Demon.

1) do you have a signature scent? I sort of consider Marc Jacobs my signature, it's the only 'fume that I've ever bought for a second time.

2) what perfumes do you currently own? Marc Jacobs, Burberry Brit, Gap Dream, Gap Closer and oodles of samples.

3) do you wear all of them? I wear MJ in the cool weather and Brit in the warm weather. Gap Closer has kind of been shut out of my rotatio. Dream, I honestly only have for nostalgia reasons. I do a little spritz in the air when I want to be reminded of a particular time (pre-marriage time when I was single, 1999-1998).

4) what are your favorite notes/smells? What do you not like? Like SB, i'm not that educated on this either. I love citrus candles and bath products.

5) any recommendations- perfume, body lotion, candle, etc?
Candle: Tocca in Stella (blood orange)
Body Lotion: I just bought a bottle of Avalon Organics lotion in Rosemary. Very interesting and very moisturizing
Perfume: Marc Jacobs and Donna Karan Gold, I was just looking at some Auric Blends and I think i'm going to pick up the Amber. It's way cheaper than the Stella McCartney stuff.
Soap: the company Mistral makes the best smelling ones imo.
