I started lurking on this site a little while ago, and it has now become a full-fledged addiction . i love how friendly everyone seems!
I've been looking for a good pair of brown flat boots for a while, and while i love some of the nicer, higher-quality riding boots (a la Boden) i'm just a poor little college student and can't afford them. So now I'm choosing btw these:
steve madden, $115 on amazon minus a $25 gift certificate = $90
and these:
dolce vita, $90 on sale from $210.00
i've wanted the steve maddens for a while because i like the fact that it has a sole with traction (I go to school in Philadelphia and will be trekking through snow to class)...BUUT the dolce vita's are such a good deal and have such a rich, buttery color! however, the circumference seems quite wide and i have narrow calves, though i would be tucking them into jeans.
i'm torn! any opinions? i also can't decide which color i like better/which would be more versatile w/diff outfits.
thanks!! i kept looking at the toe of the dolce vita's but like some others couldn't really pinpoint why or what was wrong.
i'll have to check out those esprit ones, i really like them except i was pretty set on getting a pair w/o heels...anyway i will go ahead and order some flats from dolce vita instead, and i keep drooling over this even though it's pretty impractical for me...
get the SMs. The DVs look like a straight up copy of vintage boots from the 80s- you can probably find a pair like that on ebay for $20 or less. Maybe search pirate boots or something. Welcome!
I love the SM's I've been looking on Zappos for a riding boot style but I like how the SM doesn't have as much a heel and a little bit of a more modern heel then the wood heels I've seen on similar styles.

ITA...if you wanted something like the Dolce Vitas, ebay had tons of offerings. I searched both 'pirate boots' and 'riding boots'.
I also like that the SMs look to have a lot of good traction and rubber soles.
