First let me ask...Where is the snow?????

I'm so frustrated.  My brother and I are going to NYC Jan 3rd.  We thought there would be snow.  I'm so sad.

Secondly...Do you have suggestions for us?

We are not really doing the tourist thing but rather the hang out, eat, drink, shop thing.  Where are some cool places to hang?  He is 21 on the 3rd and wants to have a good time while we are there.  Other than going ice skating we really don't have any other set plans so anything you locals can come up with would be really cool.  By the way we are staying near Times Square.

I hope you get a chance to see this before you leave! It is unfortunate that you won't see any snow but the warmer weather is better for walking around and seeing the city.

If you are staying near Times Square you'll be right near the ice skating at Bryant Park which is really nice and while perhaps not as spectacular as Wollman Rink I'm sure it's cheaper (you just pay for skate rental). Other than that I think the Times Square area is kind of hideous so if you don't want to do the tourist thing you'll probably want to hang out elsewhere. If you want to take your brother to a super sleek bar you can try the one upstairs in the W hotel in Times Square (I think it's the 7th floor) or there is the Whiskey Bar which is usually super crowded. I like a Middle Easter/tapas place that's on 44th and 9th called Kemia but that's one of the only bar/restaurant suggestions I have for the area.

A lot of people get a kick out of these pizza bars that have cropped up in the city. You get a free (small) pizza with every drink. There are two in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (Capone's and the Alligator) and one in Manhattan - the Crocodile Lounge on 14th between 1st and 2nd avenues.

I hope that helps somewhat. I don't really know what a 21 year old boy would enjoy doing!
