i want a black one to wear under dresses and tops- pretty fitted and good quality but not too expensive.  i've seen them in posts from everywhere- gap, old navy, j crew, h & m, express, american apparel...  anyone have any specific recommendations though??  i'm overwhelmed.

Probably not the best quality but I got some at Target.  They were on clearance for around $6.  I think it was about a week ago.  I got them in black, grey, and cream.  They had other colors too.

target! i bought it full retail for $12.99 so i'm not sure if it's the same as the one mentioned above... but it's perfection.

just long enough, thin but not sheer.. i actually wanted to get more in other colors. i just have one in black. it beats my american apparel one that was probably 2x as much hands down!

I found some at H&M in all different colors and they're really cool for layering. Thin but really soft.

My favorites are H&M and JCrew. Lots of colors, perfect length and good fit for layering. I bought a few at Target, too, but they are slightly boxy, so I don't like them as much.

I have two of the H&M ones. They're $12 I think.

see, my problem w/some of my soft drapey H & M knits is that they are 100% rayon.  Even though they are soft, i start to feel gross in them by the end of the day, like i sweat too much or it starts to smell bad or something. I'd like something w/cotton in it.  Are your H & M turtlenecks cotton or a synthetic?

I bought a grey and black one from gap body for $10 each. It's a mix of spandex and cotton. I liked the fit. Great for layering!

Mossimo® Black: Long-Sleeve Turtleneck - Gladiator GrayThis is the one from Target but I only see this color on the site.  It's on sale there for $8.39. I would say that it fits the way it looks on the model.  Size down if you want it really fitted.  It is 96% cotton and 4% spandex.
