My grandma gave me and old 14k white gold diamond ring for Christmas! I'm going go out today to see about getting it sized smaller, since right now it's way too big. I've never had a ring resized, though - how much should I expect to pay? I'm just wondering so that when I ask the jewelers, I know if I'm getting ripped off or getting a great deal!
TIA!

That seems about right to me. If they have to resize it down a lot, like more than 2 sizes, they may have to reset some of the stones because the prongs would get out of alignment. In that case, it may cost more.
Depending on the setting, some rings really can't be resized well. What they can do, it the ring isn't too too big, is solder in some white-gold balls on the inside of the ring, at the bottom, to keep it from coming off. My grandmother had to have this done with one of her rings, but it wasn't enormously big.
Otherwise, about $30 seems right to me too. If you have done a lot of business with a particular jeweler, they may charge you a bit less than the usual fee.
Thanks guys! It turns out that resizing it would normally cost about $30 like everyone predicted, but because the stones are spread out in a design, they'd have to do some work on those too and it would be more like $50. I decided to try one of those sizer things first to make sure I get the right size, and it turns out that was a good idea - I've already been back to the jeweler twice today to have them make it smaller!
