i saw one i liked at a boutique in soho, and passed it up thinking i could find it for a better deal online (its a gift- was $100 from $150). Turns out it is a really obscure brand from denmark and i cant even find the picture of it on the brands website, OR email contact information, OR store listings- nothing. It's lightweight wool blend, burgundy w/stripes. i really liked the style of it and thought it would look very cute on the recipient. its more than i'd prefer to spend, but i REALLY liked it. is that too much??? i know $100 isn't too much for a girl sweater, but i have way different standards there...
Though it is a bit much it is not unheard of. If it is a rare find and the person you are giving it to will love it forever and you can afford it go for it.

Not at all. Some are several times more depending on the quality, exclusivity, etc. In the menswear chain where I worked we sold some sweaters for $300 and up, and that was almost a decade ago.
Keep in mind an item of clothing intended for a man is bigger, requires more raw materials, can take longer per garment to make, weighs more, is more expensive to ship, takes up more warehouse and rack space, etc.
thanks- i bought it. i guess i didn't phrase that correctly- i meant more about whether the typical man would know the difference and/or appreciate a more expensive sweater. I think he'll like it though, and i know he'll look good in it, so i'm happy.
