My 78 year old grandma wants a necklace to wear to her Red Hat Society events. So, I decided to make her one, since a grandma would love a necklace made by their grand daughter. I haven't beaded since the 7th grade, about 15ish years ago...
The purple beads are some sort of natural gem/mineral/something, and the clear ones are crystals. The red are made of who-knows what.
Now that it's finished I'm wondering if I should just go buy her one. It was much prettier in my mind.
Here it is. The little drop at the back is to give a dangle at the back of her neck. Her hair is short, naturally.
Here is a close up. I have some gold seed beads on either side of the crystal beads so it sets them off.
Definitely give it to her! She will love it. I made my grandma (same age as yours) a couple bracelets for birthday & christmas gifts and she LOVES them. She shows them off to the ladies in her garden club. I didn't think my beaded bracelets were that great, but in her eyes they are!
I really like it. You should give it to her. I think she will be touched by the thought and the hard work you put into it. Plus now she has a reason to brag about her granddaughter when her friends ask about the beautiful necklace.
very pretty! maybe you could add a large purple pendant? I think it looks good, but if you're worried that could be something easy to add (if you get one that fits over all the beads now, you wouldn't have to redo anything), and it seems older ladies like bigger jewelry

Don't second-guess yourself. I think it turned out very well. I design jewelry too, and trust me, those kinds of gifts are always welcome. Your grandmother will love it!
