How do I play this?

Ok, I have been out of the dating loop so long, I think I forgot how to do it. I've got no game.

So there is a super cute guy at one of the companies I work with. I've seen him once or twice a week for the past 2 moths or so, we are finally on a "hi---first name" basis with each other. Through my good work friend (and confidant) I have discovered he is divorced, no kids, married young and for a short time. Similar to myself, sort of. My confidant has also hinted that he has asked about me in the past and may be interested. At the time he asked, I had the bf...since then things have changed, obviously.

I only have 2 days left at that company until the new year. I have made a resolution that in the new year I am going to step up my game and try to get a date with super cute work guy. My confidant has said she will hint to him or casually bring it up in conversation that I am single. The next step in mine...what the heck do I do?

Here's the deal: please give me tips on how to get a date with super cute work guy and in exchange I will post my updates on what happens.

do you have his e-mail? have you told him your last day will be in 2 days (am I reading this right?) if you are leaving the company in 2 days, just tell him you're leaving and see if he asks for your email address, or send an "update" email after you leave and include him in the distribution.

if you are staying at the company and just want to have progress made before January 1st, then you can try having your friend drop hints then just lay low. Pleasant indifference drives guys nuts - don't chase.

sorry, I was being a little confusing. I only have 2 more days at the company until Xmas break. I will still be there in the new year. And sadly I do not have his email or any excuse to get it. Boo.

I don't mind if nothing happens until after the new year. I was just thinking about having time to prepare.

hmmm... could you make a point of wishing him a happy holiday and asking if he has big plans? does he have all his shopping done? is his family local or does he travel? ask him a bunch of questions so he'll ask you, to which you can reply, oh, my holidays are weird this year - my boyfriend decided he wanted to move out so, I'm dealing with that, so I'm trying to vicariously enjoy everyone else's holiday cheer this year...

not so subtle subtlety

I think the first thing you have to do is move past first name basis only. Conversation is a must. Hmmm... but how? Is there something in particular you can ask him about relating to work? Some information he has or something? Maybe a common friend you could chat about? Are there any work holiday shindigs you could saddle up to him at?

Are you ever around him for a prolonged period of time?  Or are you ever around right before lunch, so that it wouldn't be weird to grab lunch together?  Or if you know where he is during the mid/late afternoon, could you say you're going to grab some coffee, and would he like some/want to come?

On a related note, congratulations on your newly single status.

Yeah, I'm with the other girls, you have to slide it in there so he doesn't have time to think about it, but with enough deniabiilty that if he's (and I doubt this, but maybe he's already hooking up with someone or something like that) so anyway, if he has other commitments, then he can still bow out with a good hint and you can pretend it was all just friendly...
