Has anyone ever lost ALL the keys to their car?

And if so, how much did it cost to get new ones?

I have no keys to my car at the moment. I've torn the car and my house apart looking for them and they're gone. So, I'm going to have to get new ones made, which is just shitterrific given all the other financial issues I've currently got, but whatever.

Fortunately, D (McStubborn) has volunteered to tote my sorry, carless ass around until I remedy this situation, but I'm still pissed as hell. I hardly ever lose things and this is the second time I've lost my car keys. I should have just had a copy made of my only key after I lost the first one, but I never got around to it. I'm an idiot.

So, can anyone tell me how much I can expect to be dropping on this? I have a 2000 Nissan Altima, by the way.

I had to have this done several years ago while I was in college. If I remember correctly, it was like $150. I'm sure you could call some places up and have them give you quotes.

I'm sorry this happened!

Okay, $150 doesn't sound bad. I'm planning to call places tomorrow. Most of them aren't open today. I'm assuming that I have to go the Nissan dealership.

How new is your car? I can't remember if you recently got a new one? If so, the dealership probably has the key codes & can cut a key from that.....I know I have key codes for my new car & I carry it around with me. I used to work at a dealership & people would call for this & we had it on record somewhere......

yep, I did this too. IIRC my car was about 3-4 years old, and the local dealership still did it for me. Good luck!

If you need a new remote keyless entry thing, those can cost up to $300 for them to program them, but they can do that at the dealer as well.

I'm sure you already thought of this, but is there any chance the keys are locked in the car? I'm assuming the car is at hime, so the keys can't be far, right?
