...because I can't decide whether to keep it or not. It's the chocolate Morning After bag by Rebecca Minkoff. I love the color and style, but it's a tad on the heavy side. The real problem is that a few people have had problems with the hardware. Two girls said the gold coloring completely came off w/i a week or so, leaving silver metal behind. Another said the hardware oxidizes if the bag isn't covered by a dustbag when not in use.
Here is the delimma: I'm worried about the hardware getting messed up, even though other girls have had no problems with their bags (including ejc423). I have been searching for a bag this color for over a month now, and I don't want to start all over again. This color is exactly what I want.
I've inspected the hardware and there a few tiny spots where I think I can see silver showing through, but I'm not sure if I'm being paranoid.
Please help me make up my mind!
Oh, and since it might help your answer, it cost me $422 after a 20% off code. The return policy is 21 days, so I could just wait it out a bit longer.
This first picture is the closest color to the bag IRL.
I wouldn't wear it as a shoulder bag, but I like having the option of slinging it on my shoulder if need be.
For sizing, compared to a Speedy 30 (w/ flash)

I'd wait it out a bit and see how you feel. However, if you are going to be worried about the hardware the whole time you own it, it may not be worth it. I hate owning anything I feel like I have to be extra careful with..I just end up not using it as much.

ITA- hold off, if you are still worried about the hardware in a couple of weeks then you always will be. Better to return then. If you find that it's fine, then you can decide to keep it if you want.

That is exactly what I was going to say. I voted return. If it's driving you that crazy now, it's totally not worth stressing every time you want to carry it. There will be another gazillion brown bags made next year; I'm sure you can find the color (or very close) again.

I totally agree. The bag is gorgeous but I don't think that it's so unique that you should keep it despite being worried about the hardware at this price point.
I agree with the other girls -- for nearly $500, you should also be buying peace of mind! Maybe think about it a few more days, but ultimately, if it were me, I'd probably return it and get something that would give me no worries.
I vote for returning it. For that kind of money it should be perfect in every way. Besides worrying about the hardware finish wearing off, you said it was a tad heavy.
Thanks for the replies. I just needed someone else to tell me to return it, because I didn't like what my gut feeling was telling me.
After inspecting the bag again yesterday, it seems that there are more silver spots on the gold hardware (where the gold is rubbing off?), so I'm just going to return it.
