Hair Stylist Question...
Permalink Closed

How do you girls feel about going to one person for your color and someone else for your cut (at different salons)? I have been getting both done by the same girl, but I don't think she does a great job cutting my hair for the price. Today, I got my hair cut and dyed, and I swear to God, she only spent 5 minutes cutting it. I have layers, and asked for 1" off, so I thought it would take her longer than that. How do you let your stylist know you'll be getting your hair done by someone else? I don't want it to get awkward, so maybe I should look elsewhere completely?

Thanks for the input!

I know a lot of people who do this.  Stick with your current stylist for color if you like her coloring job.  It is too hard to find a hairdresser you love, so stick with what works for you.  Next time you go in, just tell her you are only there for color.  Don't even mention getting your hair cut by someone unless she asks--then just say you decided to go elsewhere for that.  Make up a story if it makes you feel better--your cousin just finished beauty school or you got a discounted cut elsewhere and want to keep going there, etc.  It may be akward at first, but don't let it get it to you.  You should be completely happy with your hairdresser and if you need to go to someone else for your cuts, then do it.  Any akwardness will subside soon.

Thanks jacL! I think I am going to start over and look for a new colorist too. Today, without my makeup on, my hair does not look good with my skin. It completely washes me out - I felt like I had to pile on the blush. Plus, she failed to tell me before she started on my hair that she would be dying the underneath layers, which I did not want nor ask for, and there aren't nearly as many highlights as I wanted. I don't like being a brunette! New hairstylist, here I come.

On another note, does anyone know how long I have to wait until I can get it dyed again? I know it's only been a day, but I am really not feeling this... Is a month okay? Right now it's a dark chocolate brown, with a few (like 6 maybe) pieces of blonde scattered in. I'd like to go lighter brown/dark blonde, which is my natural color, and have a lot more highlights.
