Help needed-small gifts for employees
Permalink Closed

My husband and I are trying to think of some things we can get the people who work for us and we need some ideas and I know you ladies always come up with clever gifts.

My scenario:  I have 8 reps who report to me.  They are all college students.  My company has a "no gift" policy which means we can give personal gifts but we have to pay for it out of our own pocket.  Of course, it adds up when you have a number of employees so I was wondering what you think I could give them.  I gotta keep the cost down since it is coming out of my own pocket but I would to give each of them a cute little something.  Sooo...what do you think?

Hubby's scenario:  He has 26 (ughh!) people that report to he and his co-manager.  His co-manager is already getting everyone a little something (but he isn't sure what). Any ideas on what he should do?  I said maybe bring in some Panera holiday bread (are they still doing this) and orange juice and do a little holiday breakfast?  He was thinking pizza for everyone?  Or maybe he should give small gifts to everyone?

Could we brainstorm some small, very cheap gifts that would be appropriate for these situations? Thanks!!!!

I do small gifts for my TAs and editors all the time (mostly HS seniors, around 16-18). Some things I get that are inexpensive:

-$5 Starbucks GCs/Itunes GCs
-small journals from Barnes&Noble
-cool post-it notes, pens & candy
-goofy little kits from B&N - they have one there now called "build your own mini snowglobe"
-stationery
-mini calendars

also, if you're a good cook, my boss makes mini loaves of different breads -- cranberry, banana, zucchini, pumpkin -- and wraps it up in colored cellophane with a cute little handwritten note. There are about 12 of us, so she only needs to make about 3-4 batches of bread. It's my favorite work gift, seriously!

One year a coworker and I got all the admins a cute coffee cup with a Starbucks gc in them (like $5) and maybe a tin of mints in there as well. It was really cute in the end. I bet you can find some super cheap red coffee cups (or something similar) right now at places like Hobby Lobby and Garden Ridge.

Another idea: there's a local food bank that sells xmas cards in my town and you can donate however much you want and get as many cards as you like (i.e. $25 for 10 cards or something). Each card says a donation was made in _____'s name to the local food bank. I gave those one year with a cute package of cookies, peppermint bark, etc.

As for hubby, since there are so many of them, I'd definitely say a holiday breakfast or lunch of some sort. Otherwise you'd go broke trying to "gift" them.

Last year I had 5 people reporting to me at Christmas time so I bought them all a small box of Ethel's cocktail chocolates.  They are super cute and taste delicious.  They went over REALLY well.

For hubby I also think that the holiday breakfast or treat catered in of some sort is a great idea.  It lets people know they are appreciated and they get free food too.  Everyone at my office looooooves free food.

ITA with the other girls. I had to buy a lot of little gifts for my regular customers and I went for some Godiva gift boxes and chocolate santas. Plus, if you spend $60 dollars in store you get a free box of chocolates to give away (or keep for yourself )

One year for christmas, i bought my best three girlfriends a vosges chocolates gift box (http://www.vosgeschocolate.com/) which was four truffles in a chinese takeout box. An offshoot of this is to buy the chinese takeout boxes and stuff them w/holiday candy such as chocoates, mints, nuts etc.. It is cute and everyone will enjoy.  Just a thought.

Everyone has so many great suggestions!  I only have 3 employees who direct to me, I was planning to give the girl a Lip Gloss set from VS that I got for $10 and the guy a $10 to Guitar Center since he's teaching himself to play the guitar.  The 3rd employee just started and since I dont know her very well yet, I was stumped on what to get her too.
