are you a picky eater?

Any foods you WON'T eat, ever?

I'm not a picky eater in the general sense- i'm not allergic to anything, i'll eat all meats, all fruits, all vegetables, junky food, healthy food, etc.  Not a food snob, and will eat all cuisines.

I HATE, with a passion, certain condiments.  Mustard, cream cheese, mayonnaise, ranch dressing, cottage cheese.  If i'm even near them or know they're in my food, it makes me want to throw up.  It's not a taste thing- its a mental thing and the way they look/smell.   I love the taste of tuna salad but can't let it touch my tongue because of the mayonnaise- so i crunch it between my teeth and then swallow.  Not very enjoyable. I've met people that have similar reactions w/other foods as well.  I don't like olives either, but its on a completely different level.  I can handle them if I have to, but I don't like the taste.

ETA: i once walked 30 blocks to return a sandwich that had mayonnaise on it, instead of scraping it off.  I was starving and I just couldn't eat it.  I think the only way I could eat it was if my life LITERALLY depended on it.

I am kind of picky, but most of my pickiness comes from my ultra-weak stomach, not a taste issue. I cannot, cannot eat Indian or Ethiopian food. I get sick every single time. I do dislike a lot of things that make it kind of hard to eat - onions, mustard, spices, mushrooms, pickles... they're foods that are so prevalent but I hate them. (excpet I do like fried pickles... weird.) I can't eat anything remotely spicy-hot.

I feel like there are more, but I forget. I go through phases of feeling like I'm picky. When I dated some of my exes, I felt like the pickiest person ever because we had wildly different tastes (and obviously I ate with them the most often, so I had to feel picky almost every day). But since we've broken up, I don't feel as picky as before

I'm the same way. I won't tough mayo with a 30 foot pole.
I hate cottage cheese, ranch, basically anything white and creamy except for sour cream.

While I don't consider myself a picky eater, I am.

I'm a vegetarian with food texture issues and won't eat baked fruit or nuts in anything.

Some scary textures are bananas, shrimp, peaches (it's the fuzz).

I also HATE onions. It's due to texture and flavor. Green onions are okay.

I forgot a few...

The texture of eggs does me in, in most cases. Scrambled and hard boiled are gross. Stange as it may seem, I like a "dunk'n egg" or an egg over easy that I can dunk my toast in the yolk. I will eat things with eggs mixed in (hello, brownies) but a quiche with too much egg I can not eat.

I also don't like water chestnuts. They are too crunchy. They are like an onion in texture, but without flavor.

I won't drink milk for just about every reason imaginable.

I don't like green olives, but love black olives.

I won't eat a raisin, or most dried fruit (I'll eat dried apricots, and that's all that I can think of. Oh, dried strawberries, but they are hard to find), and I'd like to punch the person who discovered sundried tomatoes. It's like having a pretty piece of leather in my salad. No flavor, just stuff that gets stuck in my teeth.

I also can not eat a PBJ, or drink fruit juice with peanut butter toast/bread.

That's all for now.

Under no circumstances will I eat tomato, onion, brocolli, or cauliflower.  GRRRRROOSSSSSS!  I especially hate tomato.  I swear my body rejects the texture.  A tomato hits the back of my throat and I will immediately throw up.  I actually don't mind the flavor, in fact tomato soup is one of my faves, I just don't do chunks.

A lot of my friends consider me picky because of the tomato and onion.  Those two things are just so prevalent in the way people cook.

I'm not super picky, but I really don't like seafood. I'll try it, but if I don't like it I won't force myself to eat it. I also don't like cole slaw, asparagus, eggplant, and cherries, other things too, just can't remember them at the moment.

ETA: I don't eat veal. I also used to hate avocados, but then I tried guacamole, and I LOVE it. YUM.

Oh you are my tomato soul mate :) I HATE tomatoes too. Just the smell is enough to make me want to throw up.

I don't eat coleslaw under ANY circumstances. There's something inherently repulsuive about taking a perfectly good vegetable and rendering it unhealthy with all that whitish stuff...

After that, I'm pretty much game for anything.

not a picky eater at all except for one thing: raw pepper. it makes me cough/gag and ruins food for me. if the pepper is cooked in, i'm cool.

greendiamond- I'm a vegetarian with food texture issues, too. One of the main reasons I don't eat meat is because of texture. I don't like most beans, solely because of texture/looks. I try to force myself to eat them, but they sicken me. I can eat black beans as long as there mixed in with something, but I will not eat any others, especially kidney and navy. And refried beans are repulsive.

I absolutely will never eat a mushroom - a lot of people assume veggies love mushrooms. Not this one.

I also have bad associations with food that I try to block out so people won't think I'm nuts. I love onions, but long grilled or sauteed onions remind me of worms. Now chop 'em up and I'm fine. Black olives remind me of roaches. One other reason I can't eat meat because I instantly think of the animal it came from. I see a steak, I think of a pretty cow in a pasture.

certain dairy products drive me nuts. the smell of plain milk makes me sick to my stomach. and cottage cheese is so aesthetically unappetizing.

i'm weak w/ seafood, too. no shrimp because of the texture (shudder), and i can't eat crabs/lobsters because i used to have a hermit crab that i adored as a kid.

Cottage cheese, mayo, and mushrooms.  I can't do mushrooms no matter the size.  It could be the tiny chunks from cream of mushroom soup in recipes and I will pick them out one by one.

I also can't handle beef.  I tried a week ago due to a work dinner and the only menu choices were lamb chop, steak, salmon, or lobster - none of which I eat!  I felt like my whole body was revolting against me for eating that steak (not sick sick but just felt sick to my stomach)

Things I won't eat:

  • Any type of congealed salad with fruit/nuts in it.  All those textures mixed together should be illegal.

  • Relish, chutney, whole-berry cranberry sauce, etc.  Same reason as above.

  • Fish.  I can eat a couple of bites of say, a tuna steak, flounder, or fried catfish.  You know, fish that aren't fishy.  But then they are all flaky and I get grossed out.  I keep trying though, cause I want to like them.

  • Mushrooms.  Just ick.

  • Mayonnaise

  • I hate hate HATE soggy, shredded lettuce.  Or any lettuce that gets hot and soggy.

  • I don't eat meats like venison, veal, lamb, etc.  I'll try them, but as soon as I start thinking about what I'm eating, I lose my appetite.  I guess I'm just desensitized to the "normal" stuff.

We're not picky, we're just supertasters.

I also utterly hate mayonaise. I am hard pressed to think of any condiment that is more disgusting! Besides that, I hate olives, and sushi almost always triggers my gag reflex. I don't like eggplant or really hot/spicy foods. They make me turn red and blotchy.

Not at all.  I'll try just about anything.  When I was in South Africa, I ate a lot of game meat that looked extremely unappetizing but I decided to try, just for the experience.

One thing I don't like much at all is celery.  Very random.

I'm not at all a picky eater, although I do have some preferences, hehe. The only things that I always say no to are eggplant (blech! I hate the texture) and extremely fatty pieces of meat. In terms of beverages, I'm much pickier -- I don't like coffee or sodas.

I'm not very picky.  I'll try almost anything once.  But I*hate* the texture of potatoes.  I'll eat them when they're fried to the point of being crispy, but that's it. I'm the only person I know who doesn't like mashed potatoes.     I also won't eat cottage cheese, shrimp (makes me sick), duck (one of my favorite animals, I tried it once and felt really guilty), or anything that smells like mayo.  I'll eat stuff that contains mayo, so long as I can't smell it at all.

I wouldn't consider myself picky at all, I just have some 'limitations' .

Absolutely NO:

  • Game meat - rabbits, deer, elk, bear, never, never, never.

  • Gelatinous sea creatures - oysters, clams, mussels

  • Veal

  • Animal innards - liver, tongue, etc

  • Fat/skin from any meat/poultry

My only non animal related one?

  • Water chestnuts - they're what I'd imagine styrofoam tastes like.

I never really considered myself a picky eater, but my stomach can be kind of sensitive, which is the big reason for my pickiness.

But then there are just some things I hate and some things I have to put my foot down on:
Raw tomatoes (I can handle them cooked in sauces and as ketchup, but not the gooey stuff around the seeds when they're raw)
Avocadoes.  I loathe them.
Organ meat--tongue, liver, etc--will not do it.

Other than that, I like most everything.
