FH and I planned a little get away to Chicago for a couple of days after Christmas. We are staying at the Drake and are planning on going to see Wicked one night.
Anything in particular you think we should take in? esp. in the shopping arena? we would really like to shop the after christmas sales to score some things that we didn't want to buy pre-christmas.
also, we're looking for a really nice place to go to dinner one night. i've been to japonais before and loved it and a friend of ours was the architect for "black bird" and he tells us that it is really good. any other suggestions?
I love the Drake!! I stayed there in August and it was so fantastic! Plus you walk out the front door and can see LV, Chanel, and Gucci without even trying to look.
You're right in the heart of Michigan Ave Shopping, pretty much walk out your front door and you're set for shopping. If you're looking for boutique like shops as well let me know and I'll post some good areas for that.
Other dinner ideas: Avec (small plate Mediterranean, next door to Blackbird), La Sardine (French), Sushi Wabi or Coast (sushi). I haven't been, but my friends have raved about mk and NoMi. Hope that helps!

we were looking for more boutique shopping. the FH is a super huge jean snob and is looking (again) for several new pairs of jeans... me, i love the shoes... and wouldn't mind trying to find something for the wedding.
anyone have any suggestions for a good thai place? FH and I love thai food and we haven't found a good place yet in Columbus so we're really hungry for it!

For boutique shopping, I don't think you can beat the Halsted & Armitage area. If you're looking for new jeans - definitely check out the Blue Jeans Bar on Halsted, Barney's Co-Op (right across the street), and Active Endeavors on Armitage. This area is filled w/all kinds of cute boutiques. And make sure you check out Lori's Shoes on Armitage!
Vong's Thai Kitchen is amazing! It's at 6 W. Hubbard St. Make sure you order a mojito. If you like them, they have fabulous ones.
If you have any other ?'s, just let me know! I'm sure the other Chicago girls can fill in what I missed!

I missed this at first because for some reason, I thought you were asking about Chinatown--LOL.
I don't have much to add but I wanted to second ShopChicago33's shopping reccomendation. Just get in a cab and have him take you to the Barney's Co-op and walk south from there until you hit Armitage, then turn west. There are shops all along this route.
You also must check out Michigan Ave. shopping as Collette suggested.
