L.A. KID SQUAD EYES BRITNEY

December 6, 2006 -- BRITNEY Spears' wild and crazy nights with new pals Paris Hilton and Brandon "Greasy Bear" Davis have caught the eye not only of her concerned fans and the public - but also of the Los Angeles Department of Children & Family Services.

A source close to the singer said, "The department has been calling Britney trying to set up a meeting with her, so they can check on [Spears' baby sons Sean Preston and Jaden James]. The calls started after this recent bout of bizarre public behavior."

But they are not the only ones worried about Spears.

Her family is aghast at her all-night partying with Hilton and Davis and were mortified when, on four separate occasions, Spears was shot by paparazzi not wearing any underwear.

The family source said her mother, Lynne, "is very disturbed and has been trying to get a hold of Britney, but she can't. Lynne, Britney's brother, Brian, and her dad, Jamie, are very upset and are trying to stage an intervention with [Spears' manager] Larry Rudolph's help."

A rep for the Department of Children & Family Services in L.A. didn't return calls.

But it wouldn't be the first time the family service agency's social workers paid a visit to Spears. On April 8, representatives for the department, along with the L.A. County Sheriff's office, went to the Malibu home Spears shared at the time with hubby Kevin Federline after Sean Preston fell from a high chair and hit his head while he was under the care of a nanny.

Another friend of Spears said it is possible the department is now merely following up on that original visit. But the Spears household has probably become even less stable since April.

Three different times, Britney has checked into L.A. hotels like the Viceroy with Hilton, rather than go home to her sons, who are presumably being watched by her mother.

Us Weekly reports that father Jamie recently had a stern talk with his Britney. The magazine notes, "He was not happy with her antics . . . He told her that she's a grown woman and needs to act like one, and she's been making bad decisions."

I have the feeling if she didn't have so much money she would have had those kids taken away long ago.

At first I thought they were just picking on her because she is a celebrity.  But then I thought it's not okay to party every night if you have two babies at home.  She must be really desperate to get back to work again.

She seemed to have this whole comeback in the bag and in my opinion, she's completely blown it.  I saw something on Perez Hilton today where even Courtney Love was saying that she was home every night when her daughter was first born.  Seriously, things are bad when Courtney Love is knocking your parenting skills.

I think it's ridiculous that she is being investigated. It's not like she's taking her kids partying with her. I'm sure they're being well taken care of by a nanny while she is out. Just because you're a mother doesn't mean you can't go out, but I do think she needs to clean up her act a bit. I'm sure all this is just to get some publicity. In my opinion there are other children out there in far worse conditions whose parents need investigating.

For some reason this post prompted me to search for the pix circulating of Britney with no panties. I actually thought I'd find the blocked PG version that someone here mentioned but, uh, no. Now I just feel dirty just because I saw them. Ewwww.

I also don't think she should have her kids pulled from her just because she's out, but it makes me happy that someone is looking into it. While I don't think being a mom means you can't go out & have fun sometimes, you'd think that in the midst of a divorce she'd be at home with her kids & she'd have SOME common sense that she should be worried about the custody issue? Come on Brit, seriously!

I seriously don't know why anyone thought she was making a comeback.

While I do think that it is completly ok for a mother to go out and have fun, I also think she should be setting a good example for her kids and act responsibly. Not coming home at night, photographed not wearing any undies , partying several nights a week are not something that a good mother or role model does.

I completely agree w/ you, NCShopper.  She had such a great opportunity to turn things around and reinvent herself without the trashy image, and she totally screwed it up.  Plus, I think a lot of people were routing for her to turn things around.

I do not think that CFS is investigating her at this point simply because she is going out...it is probably just a routine follow-up from the prior incidents.  They usually have to do two or three follow-ups before they will leave a family alone.

While I completely agree that her behavior is more than a little questionable, I don't think its something that warrants a visit from DFCS or threats of having her children taken away.  No, she is not being a role model, but there is also no proof that she is endangering her children.  They are probably safe at home with a nanny or her mother.
