Does anyone have a suede handbag? I'm wondering how they hold up (dirt/stain-wise) compared to leather.
I had a camel one about 5 years ago and managed to spill a bunch of water on it so I didn't get to use it for a long time to see if it got dirty. I hope that makes sense, lol.

I only have one but it's a darker purple color and I haven't gotten it dirty yet. I don't think I would ever get suede in a light color, since I can hardly go for it in leather. You can get a suede cleaning kit (which is a brush and a eraser type thing) to clean any spots.
I had one from coach and I think I managed to stain it in the first week of owning it. I bought suede cleaner to try to clean off the spot, and that kind of made it a bit worse. Throughout the next couple of months it got REALLY dirty and had a few obvious spots on it. I ended up selling it at a consignment shop. I later realized I should have sent it to Coach cleaning..but oh well.
Anyway, I found the bag nearly impossibly to keep clean.

I have to agree; I have a tan suede bag that is now blue where my jeans bled onto it. But I think chocolate brown suede, for example, would be a safe choice.

And it is. I have a chocolate brown suede Coach Gallery Tote and it shows very little dirt. I haven't broke it out yet this season (I got a Speedy 30 in August and I'm still to much in love with it to carry anything else), but I carried it all last winter and it still looks great!..Or maybe it was all last spring...I can't remember..

I also have a tan suede Coach bag. It is disgustingly dirty - I would never use it again, because I'd be too embarassed. It picked up dye from my jeans, dirt from everywhere, and I even managed to drip grease on it. I will never buy a light-colored suede bag again.

I have a tan suede Tocca bag that is super dirty. I still love it so I wear it sometimes, but it only took a short amount of time for it to start looking a bit gross.
Oh....I feel SO much better after reading this thread. There was an amazing olive (?) Coach bag at TJ Max yesterday that I absolutely drooled over. I mean I was stuck in the store carrying it around FOREVER! It was only $378 down from $700 plus, total deal. I thought about it all night but now I AM NOT GOING TO GO BACK and when I do it'll be gone, lol. I'm *supposed* to be on a personal shopping ban anyway, so what was I thinking? . That said...I do ADORE suede bags :)
I have a couple - the dark ones seem to hold up without a problem. I take care of them same as my suede shoes. Buy a can of suede protector and spray several applications before even using the purse. Then periodically quickly brush the purse/shoes (maybe weekly) to keep it looking nice. Warning - I've noticed dark colored suedes can rub their color off on light denim pants/jackets. Although I have had success washing the color out in the laundry.
Don't let the fact that it's suede throw you off - they can be kept nice!
