ok-this is a two-part question:
1. DH and i were invited to a party and the invitation says "holiday attire" it's for all the employees at the gym where i teach kickboxing...so i want to look really good, b/c they have only seen me all sweaty and gross...i am open to pretty much anything!
i saw this dress at VS, but i know a lot of you question the quality, so i'm not sure.

2. for the same party, we have to bring a $10 gift appropriate for anyone and a gag gift. i'm sure i can figure something out for the $10 gift, but i have no idea about the gag gift?!? any ideas??
tia!!!

they have fake lottery tickets.  they look real, the person scratches it and it says that they won.  my friend got duped by them one year.  it was funny because she went on and on about how she was going to vegas, buying a car, etc... i can't remember the amount, maybe $10,000?

On an invitation, "holiday attire" generally means anything with sparkle, shimmer, spangle, etc. - a slightly more glamorous and festive version of cocktail attire. Velvet blazers and tartan ties on the men. Sequinned sweaters and satin ball skirts on the women. Holidays are the right time for this stuff, and people go much more overboard than they normally would.

The dress is cool, but it's something one would wear to the office. I don't see it as a party dress. How about an LBD with some glittery heels?

Gag gifts: I think if you know you're about to get a gag gift, the sham lottery ticket isn't going to work! I'll bet a toy store would have lots of options. Other things that come to mind are retro stuff like anything sold in the back of a comic book. Or magic tricks. Or rude t-shirts. Or comical band-aids. Or those hats that hold beer cans.

My brother got everyone bags of black candy one year at Christmas that was supposed to resemble coal - the old 'coal in your stocking.' I'll bet that's even at grocery stores, and as gags go, it's not unkind or embarrassing.

for the gag gift, I like these from fredflare.com, I'm thinking of getting some myself (not for my own use... I'd be kind of grossed out! for a gag gift)
