I'm debating over getting these J. Brands from the Net-A-Porter sale. They're 95.40 right now.
Does anyone know if the leg opening on the cigarette jeans is 14" or 12"? I can wear 14" nicely, but 12" looks like some seriously scary leggings on me. I'd like to be able to wear them stuffed into boots and on their own as well.
Also, would these jeans work with this outfit? (trying out gray and brown together). If so, what color handbag?
I think that those are the 14" and the pencil fit are 12". I tried on the grey and for me personally they weren't that flattering. Too much junk in the trunk I guess. I have the 14" in black and I generally like them but they lack the substance that my other jeans have (TR, COH, Seven) just to let you know. Plus I had to get them hemmed (I'm 5'5''). They fit into boots easily but there is a little bunching at the knee. If you decide to get them, I suggest sizing down because they are really stretchy!
BTW, if those are the 14", they might be the midrise ones which is a nice change from the super low rise skinnies they have out there!

I'm not sure about the leg opening, but I do like that outfit. I would wear a dark green, navy, red or purple purse. Probably anything besides black or brown. I think a navy or teal would look best though.
I like the outfit, and I'm OK with the light/medium gray and brown - if you wear the jeans outside the boots instead of tucked in, I'd prefer it. That way there's less brown and it isn't as dramatic a contrast. And I'd match the bag to the boots just so it's clear you intended the combo. It would make it that much more put-together. And a wooden bangle or tiger's eye pendant would just ice it for me...
I like the jacket very, very much. What color are the dots? Hard to tell on my screen. What goes under it?
My only critique (and of course I have one) is that a light color on the bottom adds pounds - so I'm with Liz on that score. if you're more curvy than lean (sorry, I'm new, and don't know everyone yet), the reality is, the color isn't especially flattering.
If all else fails, the boots + jacket would be fantastic with dark blue jeans.
I'm not in my best shape at the moment (the 26-28 jeans size has become more like a 27-30 as of late) so I think it would be wise to pass on the jeans. Also, it seems as if I'd have to buy a new handbag because the shape of the jacket restricts my handbag choices...
Net-a-porter have a lovely ink blue pair of J Brands on sale as well, but I already have a pair of Chip and Pepper straight legs that are so similar.
Suasoria: the jacket is the "cyndi squares" jacket from French Connection. It's on sale on the website (www.fcusbuymail.com) for $199.99 or something like that. The dots are a deep heather gray and the background is ivory.
AllieGurl: So far, all the pastel colors I've tried under the jacket (including seafoam green) seem to have worked really really well.
I don't think your size precludes those jeans. I think they would look good with ink blue under that jacket and the brown boots. Great price too. Layering a long white tunic type tee underneath the jacket or under another darker color top (burgundy, navy and grey look awesome together) layered over the tee would look good too. Throw on a big belt too, if you you want. Layers layers layers
