Getting off Birth Control side effects?
Permalink Closed

This is sort of personal, just to forewarn. I got off of BC and haven't gotten my period since. So I'm now 3 weeks late. Is this normal? I also had surgery in that time so that may have something to do with it. What are others experiences getting off of Birth Control?

The only ones that I have ever had were my lady time lasting a little bit longer/a little bit heavier.  You should call your ob/gyne to see if your surgery would have any bearing on this.

When I got off BC I didn't have any side effects, just sometimes my cycle varied by a day.  I'd definitely talk to your dr.

It's actually pretty common to have extended cycles post-BC, especially if you were irregular before.  Your surgery (and the stress along with it) could have delayed this cycle if it was around the time your body was trying to ovulate.  Or your body could have just forgotten to ovulate all together, considering it hasn't had to do it in awhile!  Stopping in the middle of a pack can also create looooooong cycles.

I'd call your doctor just to touch base at this point.  My guess is that they'll probably have you wait another week or two, and if it hasn't shown by then they might put you on a course (about a week long) of progesterone supplements.  A drop off in progesterone is what triggers your period to start both naturally and on BC pills, so the drop off stopping the course of supplements would create should bring on your period and 'reset' your cycles.

I'm going off it right now and the only thing I noticed is that my period lasted FOREVER and that I got a few more zits than normal.

I would definitely call your dr. and ask.

i had a friend who went off the pill because she wanted to get pregnant, and she didn't get her period for months. at least 4, possibly 6. so it's not anything to get worked up over, most likely, but it can't hurt to check with your dr.
