Hey ladies, I need your help because my skin is flying off the handle. When I follow a regular skincare routine, my skin is usually well behaved. I have mild acne that manifests itself in the occasional pimple on my chin or nose or forehead. I switch my routine every so often because my skin gets used to active ingredients then reacts against them so my products actually begin to induce pretty bad breakouts. About five days ago my face broke out horribly across my cheeks for the first time in a really long time. I've tried everything I can think of and I'm beginning to give up hope because my skin is usually pretty responsive to product intervention. So far I've developed "immunities" to salicylic acid, benzyol peroxide, and tea tree oil. My most recent routine of choice was the Clinique three step system which has also pretty much lost its effectiveness. What can I do now? I'd really appreciate any product suggestions or any advice you can give.

Have you tried something prescription-strength yet, like Retin-A?

No I haven't yet, but I have begun to give it some thought...

Are you sure it's your skin becoming "immune" to certain ingredients, or could it be a hormonal thing?

The only thing that my skin really agrees with is a consistent regimen.  Have you tried the regimen from acne.org?  I have the cleanser and BP gel and Aveda oil-free moisturizer w/ tourmaline and the combination has made so much difference.  My skin was doing so well that I just got lazy with washing my face and guess what--it broke out after 1 or 2 days.  I started it back about a week ago and my breakout cleared up quickly with no new acne.

If you've already tried that, and I mean for several months, every. single. day., then I don't know what else to do except see the dermatologist.  Which couldn't hurt anyway--if you're having reactions, you may have allergies.  Good luck!

Jan Marini Bioclear cream has helped me a lot.  I was getting major cystic acne around my jawline--I've determined it hormonal because it would happen right before my period.  Now I get a few but it's WAY less than before I used the cream.
