Super creepy.  I wouldn't debate it.  I would just report him.  Your file is confidential and not to be used for his personal gain.  Ew!!

OMG that sounds just like something my one nightmare ex bf did to me. He works at the school I go to and got ahold of my phone # that way.

I am totally with Farrah report him.

I'm sorry Kitty.  That is terrible and an invasion of your privacy.  Who knows what else he read in your file.  I would talk to your doctor.  He/She should be understanding of this violation and know the consequences of the violation if they do not properly resolve it.

I'm sorry that happened.  It was a total invasion of your privacy - there are all sorts of regulations to keep your file safe.

Are you sure that he broke privacy rules? I mean, I know they have your files and everything, but for example my doctor's office called today...and there had to be a legal way for her to get that information. I'm sure she had to look in my file, she didn't have it memorized of course.

I don't know, I mean... I might be weirded out, but I don't think I'd report him. If I was working at a desk somewhere and an ex boyfriend didn't even acknowledge me, I'd actually be really weirded out by that and I would try to get in touch with him. It would really upset me.

If he did something that invaded privacy rules, however, I can see wanting to report him.

It definitely violates HIPAA policies. It's different if they go in your file to get your number if they plan to call you for a doctor related thing. He went into my file for personal gain. He had no right to call me like that. He doesn't have my cell phone number for a reason!

I work in the medical field, and he he violated HIPAA.  This is serious and it really depends on how far you want to take it.  Without written approval I have no right to access my husband's or my mom's medial information, even though I have access to the information.  Here is the reporting information you need:
