Since I think we all agree that having codes in the shopping and fashion section is convenient, what would you think of keeping a sticky code thread going? We would need to make sure we include expiration dates, if possible... Maybe refresh it every week? This is just off the top of my head, and we can work our way through doing this to find the best way... thoughts?

Sounds good to me.  I haven't gotten the search feature to work very well when I'm trying to go back and hunt for codes.

That's a great idea...sometimes i forget to search for codes, so this would work out well.

I could be way off base here, but I had thought that the current sticky post was for holiday codes since it is that time of the year but that for any other time the database/toolbox thingie was where codes went. I do admit that having the sticky post in here at all times would be much more convenient (all that clicking!). Do most codes expire on a certain day? If that was the case, I would say that the post could just be refreshed Monday morning if most codes expire on Sunday night, for example.

no, you're not off base. I'm just trying to think through whether this would work or not. That's what I was thinking too would be a refresh on a monday. again - still just tossing around the idea... it's seems nightmarish logistically... maybe just for hot codes... I don't know

i kind of agree with relrel.  if there was a way to automatically weed out expired codes, then the toolbox would kickass.  it's searchable and alphabetized, which are two big for me.

the sticky is a convenient idea, though, and i'll definitely use it.  i just think it might be a lot of work.  maybe you could appoint someone every month to keep track of it?

I actually think that short-term, yes...a nightmare for you (I'm assuming you would be doing the refresh since it would require deleting, no?) and for us because of just getting used to the idea of posting codes and including all relevant information. However, long-term, it might pay off since evantually (a month, two?) it would just become second nature to post and refresh as needed. Hell, long-term it might even boost readership/membership because (would the other database still be kept up?) it would require random internet-searchers to come to forum page.

I like the idea of hot codes...but really, what is the definition of a hot code? To me, the NineWest code I posted is hot...but the Marc Jacobs, not so much since I'm not gonna buy anything from there for a long long time. It is definitely worth thinking about.

Maybe the sticky could just be for really really awesome codes - ya know, the ones that inspire you to make a purchase because it's just so good, instead of wanting to buy something and searching for a free shipping code first?  Usually those are the ones that get posted about anyhow:  the MJ code, the Sephora one, I know I posted the Handmaid one awhile back, etc.  Has a more PSA kind of function than the code database does, where I go to browse if I need a code for somewhere specific.  It would also decrease the need to constantly update it, since the 'special' codes are less frequent.

yeah, see, "hot" is subjective. we could still keep the regular database, and have a code thread every week like the weekday and weekend shopping posts. I could just unsticky it every week. we could just make sure we post the code(s) in the database when we post them in the weekly code thread.  putting them in the database makes it easy to look them up later, but a weekly thread will alert us all to new really good codes. it's not like I go through and search for a new good code in the database, but if someone alerts me to it, that can be of great value to me.

Okay, you guys, don't laugh. I have been meaning to ask this for awhile..

But where is this code database that everyone talks about? Am I seriously retarded in missing this?

I was totally thinking that when you first made it into a sticky this week.  It's a lot easier to go through, especially if it gets refreshed every week or so.

you're seriously retarded. just kidding

it's in our seriously outdated main website's shopping toolbox http://www.stylethread.com/toolbox.html

*begin rant* and if anyone has a problem with how outdated the site is, send me your address and I'll refund your subscription money. it's been everything I can do to keep myself going, and if you can't be patient with me and understanding about what I've been going through with myself and my family, then I'm sorry, that's your problem, and I don't want to hear your criticisms *end rant*

D and if anyone has a problem with how outdated the site is, send me your address and I'll refund your subscription money.

lmfao!

i think it's a great idea to sticky/unsticky every week so we know if there's a new fantastic code...i don't search the database looking for new ones that often, either.

also, is there a way we (well, i, i guess..not volunteering anyone else!) could help with the maintenance of the database? other than making purchases from every site to verify the code's validity, i mean.

edited because i can't spell.

I love the site! Let us know if we can help in any way.

yes, asf, if you would like to volunteer to update the database, e-mail me at stylethread@stylethread.com and we'll take it from there.

I really like this idea.  There are so many great codes out there that would really be helpful to someone, but not something that you'd specifically be looking for, like the Handmaid bag code and the Marc Jacobs code.  But they were/are awesome deals and definitely worth making a special note of since those types of codes are rare and they save people a lot of money.

Side note, but D, has anyone said anything to you about keeping the site updated???  I would certainly hope not!  After all that you've gone through, I would really hope that none of the regular posters here would be so cold as to be critical.  That just makes me mad!!!

If there's anything any of us can do to help you maintain the site, let us know.  I know some html (not a ton), but if you ever need help, please let me know.  You work your butt off to keep this site really awesome and so if there's any way that I can help, I'd certainly be willing to pitch in.

I've got to sit down and make a list of little jobs and see who wants to pick them up. I'll keep you posted.

Just wanted to add my voice to say that if it ends up being possible to make this a regular feature of Stylethread, I would find it absolutely wonderful!
