holiday party wear
Permalink Closed

Around the holidays we always get invited to tons of get-togeathers and inevitably need something to wear....

Do you always get something new to wear to a big party (ie your office Christmas party) or use what you've already got? Do you "recycle" outfits (wear the same outfit to 2 different events) if you know you'll be seeing a different crowd of people?

This year I am trying to refrain from buy new things and just use what I have (since i have so many things, my closet is bursting.) I really like the outfit I have picked out for my bf's Christmas party and I might wear it to my work party too.

I have a few fancy shmancy outfits, so I tend to wear kind of the same ones every year, but I don't usually wear them twice in one year. You can definitely do it, though - I just like to give each outfit at least one chance to go out every year

I rarely buy new things specifically for a party, but if I do it just starts to enter my yearly rotation. If I want to buy something new, I just buy a pretty new top and wear some standby black skirt and heels.

Sometimes I buy new things if I don't have anything appropriate. I have so much clothing that I usually just wear something I allready have,an I rarely repeat an outfit. I don't see any reason why you couldn't wear the same outfit twice.

I don't usually buy new stuff for these types of events. I just don't have these types of events often enough to justify spending quite a bit on something I will only wear a few times. I will repeat an outfit if it is new and fabulous.

for the family parties, i do usually buy something new (or figure out how to rework something special). for my husband's side, it's pretty dressy, but i am not as concerned...but for my side i only see some of my family once a year so i like to look good! (very petty, i know)

I tend to stick to what I already have unless I'm in the market for something fun and new.  I spend enough on gifts and travel around the holidays without spending on clothing.  Plus, I think it's a good time to wear the fancy stuff I have that I just don't get to wear that much!

I've never bought anything especially for the holiday parties before, but this year I did (red & black plaid DVF wrap dress)--but mostly just cause that dress is sensational and I know I'll love it forever. Other than that, though, I can't really see myself buying anything for this particular purpose.

i bought a new black dress that is long sleeve so that i don't have to worry about being too cold.  i hope i can dress it up or down (with all the STer's help).  i think it is a good investment since it's jersey and should travel well and clean up well.  normally i buy one or two pieces a year.  my satin pants have lasted forever and really helped.  i also have a couple festive skirts that have helped as well.

if in doubt i would go with a classic dress, or black satin bottoms (pants/skirt)

I bought a black dress that was posted on ST a few months ago from Nordies that I plan to wear to the Chicago ST-er get together and my BF's holiday party.  I will definitely wear it a lot more than those two occassions though.  Last weekend I bought a top to wear to a 30th birthday party the second weekend in Dec and my holiday party is black tie optional so I will be recyclin gmy NYE dress from 2 years ago.  It is a super cute Laundry dress that I have a  pink rabbit capelet to match.  I am so excited to wear that outfit again - yay!!!

I usually buy a new dress for NYE though.  I met my BF on NYE so it is a very special night for me.  This will be the 7th one since we met.

That's exactly how I feel. Though, I'd love to have more of these events to go to. But, no-one I know does anything for the holidays... so annoying.

I was just thinking about this actually.  DH's company has a large Christmas party and I think I'm just going to rework somethings I already have instead of going out to buy something new.

I have enough basic pieces to create new outfits without going to a ton of trouble. It helps that I don't wear dresses unless I'm going someplace where ladies shouldn't wear slacks (though such invitations are mercifully rare today).

Good black silk pants and terrifyingly high heels, plus a spangly camisole or some other kind of special top and appropriate accessories is about as far as I'll go for a holiday party.
