so, i have an interview at a school in mass. (cooold) dec 1. but, because of an illness i am dealing with now, i have recently gained 30 pounds and am VERY self conscious about it (and,of course, none of my "go to" clothes fit right now)

i have to buy a new outfit, i am thinking wide(r) leg pants and a pretty sweater (nothing too form fitting in other words) i want the sweater to be the focal point

any ideas? I am lost- thanks so much for the help

I think your idea sounds really nice. Maybe add some super cute shoes to make it fun. :)

Maybe a wrap sweater?  One of my friends had to take steriods for a medical condition and gained some weight, and she liked wearing wrap tops.  Or maybe a cowl neck sweater?

That sounds good.  I like the idea of a sweater or shirt with an interesting neckline like a v-neck or cowl neck or something.  Carry and fabulous bag or wear some great shoes and you'll feel more confident.

sorry to hear about your illness - I hope you're doing better.  I've put on some weight as a result of dealing with my illness too, so I completely empathise.

covering the booty and thighs and creating long vertical lines can be slimming or at least covering.

in my situation, my ass decided to explode, but I still have a small waist and flat stomach. If your body is like mine, empire waists that define the relatively fat free zone of my ribs and wisk over my hips are flattering.

as far as pants and a sweater - what about a tunic sweater - they're everywhere right now. it can create a long vertical line, especially if you stay monochromatic. I'll take a look around and will come back and post some suggestions.

this has been my go to dress with a sweater and boots this fall:

Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit Jersey Dress

other ideas:

Cue & Emm 'Princess' Sweater CoatBCBG Max Azria Ruffle Charmeuse Polo

BCBG Max Azria Cable SweaterBCBG Max Azria 'Dandy Stripe' Blouse
Nine West 'Cyndi' Trousers

One Girl Who Cable TunicCK Calvin Klein Chain Trim Belt
Dana Buchman 'Aphrodite' Wool Pants

Lauren by Ralph Lauren Cable Cardigan
Not Your Daughter's Jeans Tummy Tuck Corduroy Skirt

skirts are great because they skim over things and don't define the thighs and butt.

I hope you're feeling better! Let us know if we can do anything... not that every one of us are doctors, of course, but still, I hate to hear that you're going through something so draining physically and emotionally.

I really like those last two things D posted - the wrapped and belted sweater and long skirt. I think those would be perfect, or anything like them.

but with a stronger belt:

plain dress like this but brown:

So sorry to hear about your illness! When I was sick I wore things that camoflaged my midsection because that's where I gained the most weight.

Maybe something like this with a cute cami peeking out:

Or looser fits like these:

Robert Rodriguez Drape Neck VestKenneth Cole Reaction Kimono Sleeve Sweater

This might be a flattering option if you're looking for a blouse:

Ruffle Blouse - Black/Ivory

Hope you feel better and good luck!
