Hubby and I have our anniversary in January and would like to do something fun. We have already traveled to europe and mexico recently so would like some ideas of other countries or things to do in the states ...
Has anyone stayed in seattle then done the drive to canada?
Skiing in the Alps was WONDERFUL. Stopping mid-day at a mountain lodge for hot chocolate, skiing up to your room, seeing Mt. Blanc in the distant...aaah, memories.
Some other ideas:
Beach vacation in Thailand
Cook Islands
Virgin Islands
Seychelles
Trekking Annapurna
The sky-high train from China to Tibet
Marshall Islands for scuba diving with the sharks
Quebec City, Canada
Alaskan Cruise
Egypt with Nile cruise and scuba diving in the Red Sea
Let me know if you want any more ideas... I've got tons.
my husband and I did a road trip from SF up the coast to Crater Lake in OR, and back down the Sierra Nevada mts. to Yosemite in June - it was a lot of fun. I would love to go to from Seattle to BC - sounds like a fun trip (no pun intended - "trip" - BC - ha ha... or maybe not...)
there is also a thread I posted a link to for beaches that had a ton of good info:
-Salzburg (Europe, I know, but a bit off the beaten path)
I'm not sure what sort of vacation you're looking for, but all three destinations are truly wonderful in my experience and popped into my head as great places for "romantic" vacations to celebrate an anniversary!
If you want to stay on the west coast, I would recommend Napa/Sonoma. You'll have it all to yourself since it's off season. Or, you could go check out the wine country in Oregon...I've heard really good things about Portland plus the pinot vineyards. Happy anniversary early!
Well, I live in Seattle and travel to Canada pretty frequently. There is definitely a lot of fun stuff to do in Seattle and southern British Columbia. Do you ski or like to hike? A lot of the best activities around this area are outdoorsy, IMO. Whister, BC is a fun town to hang out in during the winter. It is really a ski town, but there is good nightlife and some decent shopping too.
I dunno, I love living in the Northwest, but I never think it would be a very fun place to go on vacation. Feel free to PM if you have other questions about a trip out here.
