Funeral Attire

I will have need in the upcoming week or so to attend a family funeral. I don't really like wearing colors to funerals, so I can wear a black skirt and either a black v-neck or maybe a midnight blue v-neck sweater. My other option is a black wrap dress. Is a wrap dress even appropriate for a funeral? For some reason I can't decide. I would of course wear a cami underneath to bring the neckline up.

Also: the issue of shoes. Are these too "party" for a funeral?

I worry because of the peep toe.

I have those pumps and a pair of pointy toe pumps, but the pointy toed ones have ankle straps, and with both my skirt and dress ending right below my knees, I'm afraid of looking stumpy and sloppy.

I cannot go shopping, so these are my only options.

What do you think?

Seriously - this may sound silly - but do you love the wrap dress? If so I wouldn't recommend wearing it if you were close to the person because then it becomes "that funeral" dress - I did this with a jacket I own & I can't even pass over it in my closet without thinking about that is what I wore to my grandfather's funeral. I think a skirt & sweater is beyond appropriate & I really don't even think color is inappropriate - especially not a dark colored sweater. I also think so shoes are fine - I don't think peeptoes say "party" - I think they are a basic these days just like a closed toe pump.

I also wanted to say I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm sorry for your loss. I agree with laken about not wearing anything that you love. I think that the skirt and a sweater would be fine (black or navy). I also think that the peep toes are fine. I personally would wear something pretty comfy since I hate being uncomfortable, especially at something as emotionally charged as a funeral.

I am sorry for your loss.  I think the skirt and sweater sounds very appropriate.  The dress sounds totally appropriate too, but I think Laken makes a really good point about negative associations.

Be well!

Thanks for your kind thoughts, everyone. That's also a very good point about the dress - I do love it and I didn't even think about "tainting" it with sadness. I think I'll go with the pumps, skirt, and sweater.

Thanks again!
