I'm still wearing mine, even purchased a new pair and plan on getting one more. However I live in Chicago and warm boots are a necessity. So I'm not totally wearing them to look cute as I am to stay warm. That being said I don't think I'll be shunned for wearing them.

I was anit-ugg for a long time until I bought a pair of short ones on sale at Nordstrom to wear as slippers around the house. I now have 2 pairs of shorts to wear around the house (one yellow and one blue - yes, it's ridiculous!) anyway - I've since bought the uptown style, and have bought minetonka versions (all shearling but much cheaper) for both my husband and father to wear around the house and they love them. I have also since bought Canadienne water resistant shearling boots too. They may no longer be a hot trend, but damn, I can go out in 10 below freezing weather barefoot in these things and my feet are at a constant perfect temperature - they're amazing. uggly, but amazing.

I do think they have the possibility to look pretty dated on an older woman, especially if she's not from a place like Chicago where everyone is wearing them out of sheer necessity. My mom looks pretty young for her age, but I still don't think I'd buy her uggs because they were soo prevalent among the high school and college age crowds last year, she might look like she's trying to be younger and trendy, but missed the boat.
However, if you do live in a very cold climate, that all might be much less important than having warm feet!

I think if they are not the most popular flat style, it might be OK. The other styles that are more structured on the bottom might be a good alternative.

I don't wear them for fashion, but I do get compliments on my uptowns (which I only wear out when it's freaking freezing). I wouldn't be too concerned. If she was wearing an ambercrombie mini with a hoodie and uggs, then I think it would be interpreted as being trendy. If she's a classic kind of woman, the uggs, I think, will just look practical/classic. JMO

especially the uptown or more structured styles, like D said. I think they have a nice mix of practicality and a classic, moccasin sort of style. It also helps that they come in tan and dark green rather than bright purple.

me either. But the people who live where I do (where it is very, very rare to get below 60 during the day in the winter) look silly wearing them IMHO.
