Today I was at Kohls and was this close to buying this cami... But something stopped me. I tried it on underneath a low-cut sweater, and I thought it looked really good peeking out at the top and the bottom. But I know the whole lacy-cami as a bottom layer thing started a couple years ago, and for the life of me I cannot decide if it's dated. While I was at the mall I kept looking around, and there were a lot of shirts with the lacey thing built in, and a few people wearing them. But my city isn't the most fashion-forward, so I didn't want to trust them.
So my question is: Is this look stale? Does a sequiny-lacy cami underneath say "I'm cute and full of holiday cheer" or "I'm stuck in 2000"? Was it a trend a while back, or just an emerging staple look?
Thanks!

Hmmm... a very good question. Here's my two cents:
I don't think the peeking-out-cami look is dated per se... but I think to keep it fresh, it needs to transform into a look that is more rich and sophisticated, as opposed to trendy.
I really wish I had Photoshop to do this right, but let's see if I can come up with some examples:
This sweater:
With a cami like this showing:
Equals chic and feminine
Whereas this sweater:
with this cami showing:
might make me wonder when your dad is picking you up from the mall.
Yes the trend started awhile back, but I think it has become a staple look because layering is so big. Also longer shirts are popular so you cacn put a long cami under a shorter shirt and it has the long look to it.
