Damaged baby hairs??
Permalink Closed

Hi, I am new to the forum, this is my first question, yay!

I have long sorta fine highlighted blonde hair.  I have noticed that I have short hairs sprouting that are about 2" long and look like they have a different texture than the rest of my hair.  They are either kinky or damaged.  Is this normal?  Is it malnutrition?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think, and I'm going on something a hair stylist said to me, that hormones change your hair texture totally, and for some people, at different ages, like 28 or so, they may gradually become red head or get curly hair. It doesn't sound TOTALLY credible, but um, my hair is much redder than it used to be, and no longer has a wave. So I don't know. But maybe something like that could be causing these hairs?

Oh wait! Don't freak, but maybe they're grey hairs? Grey hairs usually have a much coarser texture than teh rest of your head. And sinc eyou color your hair, they may just look pale blonde.

I'd say any hairs that are much shorter than the rest and oddly kinky are likely just fried and have broken off.

Do you frequently process your hair, besides having it highlighted?  Straightening, curling, blowdrying, stuff like that?  Even pulling your hair back tightly can cause weak hairs to break ....

both ladies give good advice. i'm good to err on the side of fried, but it could also be grey hair.

also, major life changes (chemo, pregnancy, puberty, etc) can completely change your hair texture, as dizzy said.

I doubt theyre grey hairs... Im 24.  and when I pluck them, they dont look grey.

maybe its just a finer type of hair that gets damaged easier?  I guess i wont worry much.
