vegas questions!
Permalink Closed

Hi guys.. we're going to Vegas over Thanksgiving and wanted to see what clubs yall recommend for nightlife. I did a search and some of the Vegas posts are from 2005. Wanted insight on the newer spots to hit. Not a techno fan... I can dance to hiphop all night long though!

Is it advisable to prepay for those "VIP" tickets? On vegas.com- it claims that you can bypass the long lines.

Also-- has anyone seen Cirque du Soleil Zumanity? Bf has never seen a performance before and I think it would be a nice treat.

I think any Cirque de Soleil performance would be amazing, although I don't know anything specifically about Zumanity

I haven't been to Vegas, but I interned at a gambling mag this summer and my editor (late 20's, loves to party) did a story about the best things to do in Vegas. While he was there, he went to the Ghost Bar at the Palms, Light at Bellagio, Tabu at MGM, and TAO at the Venetian. I forget the specifics of each, but I think he had a blast at them all.

You definitely want to hit Pure, Rain, Tao, Body English and the Hard Rock Pool (just during the day). Good luck, have fun and report back!

I went to Vegas a month or so back and my girlfriend and I hit a few spots. We went to:

The Bar at Times Square (NYNY)- A bar with dueling pianos where it's like one big kareoke party. You are welcome to request songs for them to play for a small "monetary donation". It's fun and rowdy and they play everying thing from "Pour Some Sugar on Me" to "Why do You Build me up, Buttercup?'. Plus, the piano players are hilarious and love to heckle the crowd. Wait until they do the "bra song" and you'd be surprised at how many they get!

Pros: Very casual, older crowd (25-45) Cons: Very limited seating (so go early!), can get super crowded.

Caramel (Bellagio)- Nice lounge to have pre-show/after-dinner drinks. Very swanky, cute bartenders and gorgeous waitresses.

Pros: Nice lighting, transient crowd so tables and stools usually open up Cons: Kind of snooty (the clientele not the staff) and drinks are expensive (chocolate martini was like 16 bucks)

Light (Bellagio)- Nice staff, but a smaller venue compared to the newer clubs. Plays mostly top 40 and hip hop. Some open seating without having to purchase a VIP table but get in fast and early to snag one!

Pros: Not as crowded as the other clubs Cons: Not as crowded because it is not considered one of the hot spots any more. )However, when I went it still was pretty full and fun. Just not crazy.)

Shadow Bar (Caesars)- Cool lounge to chill in before going somewhere else. Girls dance "naked" behind screens and their sillouettes are illuminated behind the bar.

Pros: Not too loud or rowdy, good place to chill and meet people. Plenty of bachelorette/bachelor parties stop in before heading out to clubs Cons: The good tables facing the bar get filled up quickly and when we went the cocktail waitresses were slow

Pure (Caesars)- The hottest club in Vegas right now (along with Tao). Super crowded and the place to "see and be seen." No seating for those who aren't VIP so either wear comfortable shoes or be prepared to make friends. The best music of all the clubs I went to (top 40, hip hop, rock and mash ups, not to mention DJ AM is really good). Dance floor is ridiculously small for the amount of people in the club and is almost impossible to navigate. There are tables (with no chairs) lining the dance floor that if you get in early you can snag so you have a place to rest your purse/drink. But these go fast and are prime real estate so be prepared to defend your territory from rude peeps trying to squeeze you off the table.

Pros: Contrary to popular opinion, I found the staff really nice and friendly. Just be polite and smile and they are more than accomodating. Great music. If you're lucky you'll see some celebs. We saw Adrienne Curry (who is super tall and really pretty IRL) and "Peter Brady" (along with "Greg Brady") if that counts.

Cons: The lines to get in are CRAZY! If you are not a group of all girls (there's a seperate line) or bought a VIP table, you will either have to get there super early (20 min. before the club opens) and either make frinds/bribe one of the 20 bouncers they have outside or wait for 1-2 hours. Is it worth the trouble? Jury's still out.

Ghostbar (Palms): Neat to go to if you've never been, but nothing special. Definately past it's hey-day, but worth the view. Hefty cover charge on the weekends for just a lounge (20 dollars I think?) The glass floor is neat but is only like a small rectangular window in the floor. However it is funny to see guys who are 6'5'' and 220lbs. that are too scared to go near it.

We went to a couple more places but we either weren't there too long or were to drunk/tired to be too objective about it. My advice is not to waste your time or money buying those VIP passes because it's at the discretion of the management if they're going to honor them and if you go on a weekend or on the day they're having an event you're pretty much SOL. Also, if you go with all girls you have little to no problem getting in quickly and even for free most of the time if you get there resonably early. Just dress cute which as an ST member I'm sure you have no problem doing.

If you have any other ?s feel free to ask me! I love Vegas if you couldn't tell by my reeeeeaaaalllly long post.

I LOVE the piano bar at NYNY we've gone there every time we go to Vegas (not too far), since we started going.  I don't want to date myself so I'm not telling how looong I've been going.

It's not the hot-pants night, it is much more the second night.  When you can't bear to to put your mangled feet into your 4-inch heels because a train is currently sitting on you head.

I haven't been to Zumanity, but we went to KA.  The acrobatics and illusions were amazing!

Thanks everyone for yr suggestions.. .esp Liz!! I am def going to check out some of the places you mentioned. Glad you told me abt those VIP passes-- I would hate to spend $ on them and have them wasted! I'm going w/ the boyfriend who is a smooth talker so hopefully he can get us in without having to spend forever in line. Sounds like it's a good idea to just get out to the clubs early huh? Do they stamp yr hand and you can leave and come back later? Just a thought.

I was in Vegas over Labor Day and saw Zumanity. It was really good. I'm not the biggest Cirque Du Soliel fan but I really liked this show. Ummm, not sure if you know... but it's about sex. It's over 18 and there is nudity and a lot of sexual content. But it's more or less tasteful. I would TOTALLY recommend this show.

If you go to Zumanity just don't sit in the very front. Some of the people in those seats were asked to do some pretty embarrassing things. It is A LOT more risque' than the other Cirque Du Soliel shows, but it was cool. I actually enjoyed it more than their "O" show at the Bellagio that I found to be a little bit on the boring side compared to some of the others. HTH. Have fun in Vegas!
