Our daughter is 17 and wants a brown peacoat. I've found two options, one from J. Crew and one from Target. Does anyone have any opinions on either of these. I know J. Crew is probably better quality, but sometimes Target has really great stuff. The Target one is online only, so maybe one of you have it??
Do I consider this an investment piece that she'll wear for years or go with the less expensive version?

I'd go with the Target coat. But I'd also get a few scarves/gloves sets to give it different looks. I've gotten some really nice wool coats at TJ Maxx and Marshalls and Loehmans over the years. You may be able to find a brand that you think will outlast the Target for about the same price.
My husband had a coat from J.Crew and it was not the best quality for the price. This was a few years ago and I haven't tried their coats since, so they may be fine now.
Do you have a Burlington Coat Factory near you? I have found that they carry a lot of really nice coats, good lines and options too.
