Law school's the worst about gossiping. Everyone has a reputation of some sort or a stereotype, if you will. It's because no one in law school has a life - seriously. They have nothing to do but talk about the people they're around all day. It's obnoxious and annoying. It's also one of the reasons I stopped hanging around law school peeps after my first year. I never even knew most of the people my friends were discussing.

I don't know the answer to how to change the way they think b/c short of them finding something else to occupy their time, I don't think they will. Just be who you are and ignore them, even though it's super hard. It's like a bad rep in high school or something. There's nothing you can do but ignore them and don't let it affect how you feel and/or act.

I can't wait for law school to be over for you. Everything you've ever said about law school (and the friend thing - but only when I was there) reminds me of me when I was there. I can only tell you that it gets better once you leave that atmosphere, as little as that helps.

Geez, don't these people have anything better to do with their time? Those guys are making themselves look very pathetic and small, IMO, by talking about you that way. I am really sorry this is happening to you! How much longer until you graduate? I hope they will soon leave you alone. Just by being yourself and staying above this you're bound to show the rational people there that these rumors are totally false.

I was kind of in this position in high school so I know how bad this feels. I went to boarding school and had never been allowed to date at home, so I didn't understand dating at all and was very shy with boys. A few of them started spreading rumors about me too, ranging from "she's a tease" to "she's a slut," and it was very embarrassing.

Thanks y'all. All the "she's just crazy" rumor mill thing is happening to another one of my friends too. And another one had such a slut rep the first year that she cried every night and it took a MONTH for her to believe that her current (awesome) boyfriend would be willing to date her publically. It's just law school. Some days it's so hard to go in there and smile at people. But I only have until May and then I'm OUT.

whoa. that has got to be one of the most unhealthy environments to be in. i've got to hand it to you... being able to stick it out for 2+ years there! if i were in your position, i might've maimed a few people by now. i'd be known as the homocidal ho (ho'? hoe? wtf, who cares).

I feel your pain Dizzy. At work this has been a particularly bad week for people lying and backstabbing. I just try to ignore it and know that the crap they come up with is so unrealistic that it is not worth my time. On the days when that doesn't work I just watch the clock all day or plan my next vacation away from the jerks!!

For what its worth I think you are funny as hell and always have great advice for all of us! Forget about those crack hos! What do they know anyway?
