Anyone have any information on the area, schools, cost of living, standards of living, neighborhoods, anything?

Yep this is another sales territory oppurtunity for hubby.

Missouri is pretty big.  Is there a specific city/area?

I think you need to narrow to a region in Missouri.  I do know that St. Louis and Kansas City are both way different than rural Missouri.

I guess that's it, we are trying to determine where a good place to live would be. Anyone know anything about Columbia, MO.? We want someplace that is a good place for families, good schools are very important.

I lived in central Missouri (Warrensburg) for about 6 months and I loved it.  My husband was stationed at Whiteman AFB before we got married and then I moved out there after the wedding.  We weren't there long, but I'd love to go back someday.  It is about 45 minutes from Kansas City.  The University of Central Missouri is there as well.  I loved being close to KC.  Our cousins live in Overland Park, KS, which is a suburb of Kansas City (MO and KS).  It's a great area and they love it.  That's my only experience with Missouri.  Short but good.

I'm African but I was born in St Louis, Missouri. Been to visit a few times..

I didn't really like the vibe I got from the area (JMO) it was a little to vanilla for me.

Sorry I have no input on school systems and such in that area..

I think that St. Louis and Kansas City are both fantastic places to live, especially St. Louis. Unfortunately, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else in the state at all. In my experience, Missouri has a really low cost of living (including the cities) compared to other parts of the country, although it depends on where you're coming from.

Hubby already strictly stated we WOULD NOT live in St.Louis, for this and various reasons.

It's dangerous and plus...who would want to live in a city that beat the Tigers in the World Series? I mean seriously, living in St. Louis would be immoral or unethical or something. Or at least in my world it would be.
