i recently purchased a pair of j brand skinny jeans in charcoal and i've seen magazines feature skinny jeans and it always looks bunched up at the bottom. am i not supposed to get my jeans hemmed? i tried my jeans on with a pair of ankle boots and created that same bunched up look and it didnt look too bad...could i walk out looking like that?
here are some pics....what are your thoughts on this?
OK, a little scrunch is good, too much scrunch looks a little funky. You can't really pull them all the way down over shoes, or it looks really strange too.
I woud get them hemmed a bit if you aren't comfortable with the amount of scrunch. Skinny jeans that are a little shorter (ex: zippered bottoms, cropped at the ankles) are staying in for spring, so you'd be ok.
this is actually one of the reasons I love those joe's I got... they are wide enough to fit over my shoes and don't scrunch. I think jeans like this look a lot better pulled down--it's a cleaner line. Just my opinion though.
I've been wearing my skinnies both ways. I've learned that it really depends on the shoes that you're wearing that day. In other words, I think that flats and scrunching leads to too much fabric, making me look shorter than I really am. But on the other side, scrunching and ankle boots/platform heels, scrunching looks pretty good. I prefer scrunching my skinnes with my heels because I feel like if I got them hemmed...it would just make them look too short. How much you scrunch also is a big factor. If they are really bunching up, it's probably too much fabric around your ankle and it might look weird. But a little scrunching looks really good if it's done right.
Personally, I think the scrunch is a bit too much and tends towards unflattering, so I would vote for getting them hemmed. But of course that's just me!

I tend to agree with this, although mine (I have only one pair, but I them) scrunch minimally. I think your body shape is a big factor, too. I have longer, skinnier legs, so a little bit of foreshortening due to the small scrunch isn't a big deal, and I'd rather not hem so I can wear them with multiple heel lengths. I don't wear mine with flats, though, because then it's too much scrunch.
Oh, and can I just say that I really love that I have found a place where I can analyze the level of scrunching that is appropriate with people who, like me, actually care?
