strapless dress to a winter wedding? (opinions on dresses, please!)
Permalink Closed

hey gals! i'm headed up north for a wedding in december- what can i wear so that i won't freeze? i've seen a lot of super cute strapless dresses that i would wear in a heartbeat down here in texas, but what is appropriate wedding attire in minnesota? here are my picks so far, though: opinions? TIA!

love it, can't afford it:

chiffon + down parka = still cold

is this even appropriate for a late afternoon wedding?

well, i've never been to minnesota so i can't comment on how cold it is, but i like the red dress. i haven't seen the third dress in person but recall someone else posting that in person it is very thin and i suspect you'd be freezing! what about something in a velvet or warmer fabric than chiffon? i'll do some looking around and come back with pictures.

eta: here are some ideas

bcbg on bluefly, $129, napa red matchstick velvet

same dress from bcbg but in silk charmeuse

wine velvet and burnout silk, dina bar el, on sale for $249.99 from $525

alexia admore, on sale for $99

this has long sleeves -- not sure if it's totally wedding appropriate, but could help with keeping warm

I haven't seen the third dress IRL, but we had a discussion about it a while ago and mainly decided it wasn't really wedding-appropriate, mostly because of the cotton fabric.

I can't exactly articulate why the red dress you posted seems wrong to me. I know that the above dress doesn't offer that much more coverage, but somehow it seems more appropriate to me for a winter wedding. I live in KY and I don't think I'd wear the red one you posted to a wedding, and Minnesota gets colder than we do.

First of all, I wouldn't want to be in MN in December (although I have been before), but the wedding is indoors, right?  I like the third dress with a little dressy cardigan over it, either cream or black, so you don't look like you think it's summer outside.  Or a wrap of some kind, maybe?  Something to cover your shoulders.
