So I want a nice watch for my 30th birthday and realized I know nothing about good watches. So far I've been looking at Cartier but that's about it. Can anyone recommend a beautiful watch? I want something classic that I can wear every day but fancy. Make any sense? No real price point since it's going to be a gift from my DH!

I like the Cartier Tank, but if I think I would go with a Rolex Oyster Perpetual in two-tone oyster bracelet (pink gold/steel or yellow gold/steel). I also like the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Pearlmaster with pearlmaster bracelet in white gold with bezel set diamonds.
While it isn't as high-end as Cartier/Rolex, the Michele Art Deco Stainless Steel/Diamond watch is also really nice.
I have a Cartier Roadster, I am pretty much in love with it. It's a bit sportier than the Cartier tank watch though. My Roadster is stainless steel. My mom has the Roadster too, although hers is gold and diamond studded. It's a very classy look, I think.
I'd personally go for a Cartier or a Rolex. Interesting tidbit - I read in Marie Claire that the Roadster runs off of body heat!?

I've always been attracted to Baume Mercier watchers.

I second Baume & Maucier. The BF has one and it is seriously the most beautiful time piece I have ever seen.
just a warning- i have one and have had endless problems with it- its in repair much much more than its on my wrist. even though its gorgeous, i would never buy one again. also, if i recall correctly, D posted that she has a similar problem w/hers
my friend who is a watch snob loves Omega watches (but it's a guy and I think they are better for guys than ladies).
