Does anyone belong to a Lifetime Fitness club? Do you like it? Is your membership pricy? Any other opinions are appreciated. TIA!

I belong to Lifetime Fitness. I like it. While it is a tad pricey, it's only a little bit more than other clubs in the area, and I feel it has more to offer than the other ones we have here.

After taking the club tour, I decided that if I didn't like working out there, I was destined not to work out because the facility is nice. I like that the classes are free with a membership, and that they have private showers and a pool dry sauna and wet sauna.

However, the club isn't very close to my house, so I don't go as often as I would like to, but I'm working on that.

Thanks gd! There's one about 10 minutes from my apartment. Hopefully I'll be motivated enough to make it! I think I'll go in and see if I can take a tour, plus I *think* I saw a commercial that said they had special savings until the 31st. The pictures on the website look very nice, hopefully my local will be just as nice. Thanks again!

When I went I just toured, but I think that you can pay the "daily" rate, adn if you like it they will credit it towards your 1 time fee.

Whatever the case, while you are being walked around, don't be afraid to hop on the equipment and really check it out. Remember they are trying to sell you on the place, so really test it out, and don't forget to ask for an aerobics class schedule!

I know Vanessa had/has a membership there.  You should PM her and ask.

Yup I am a member.  I pay $95 a month for two people.
Pros:

* Proximity  - it's less than 15 min. away from my house, and conveniently between home & work.
* Open 24/7
* Locations across the country - this is something I only seem to take advantage of when it's the middle of the night and my not-so-sober self has to use a restroom (last Saturday being the last time I did this ;)
* Nice pool, sauna, most classes are free.

Cons:

My only real con is that the facility by me can get way too crowded during peak times.  Parking can be a hassle, but they have valet to resolve that.  Still a pain IMO.  Who wants to wait 10 min to get their car from the valet on a freezing, snowy day?  I'm personally starving after my workout and will avoid going to the gym if valet is all that's available because I just don't want to bother with the wait afterwards.
Also, I personally like to take classes (yoga/pilates, etc.), and there have been plenty of times they're full.  You have to get there early to secure a spot, but even if you do, there's always that person that tries to squeeze their way in.
There is somewhat of a showiness/meat-market'ish vibe there (might be my location only).  My previous gym was a park district in a very reputable town and it was more of a community atmosphere - mostly women, we all knew each other, were there to work out & not impress anyone, etc.  This is decidedly different, but it might or might not be an issue for you.

That all said, please take this knowing that this is coming from someone who 1. hates to work out & 2. Is somewhat intimidated in gyms full of bulk-bodied strangers.

Thanks Vanessa!

There's an all-women's Lifetime fitness about 20-25 minutes away, but I'm too impatient to drive that far for a gym.

Does anyone know when peak times are usually at gyms?

5-8 p.m. is pretty peak at mine, but it's never been a problem for me. Getting a low locker is harder, but I can always get a good workout in. And parking is at a premium, but I figure I'm there to work out, so if I can't walk a little wasy to the door then I don't belong in a gym.

They have an all female Lifetime? I've never heard of such thing. I don' think they have those in MI.
