***UPDATE***


So salary requirement must not be a big deal, or I'm in a good range for the salary, because I got asked to come in for an interview 2 DAYS after sending in my resume.  WOOHOOOO!!!!!  I go in for my interview tomorrow morning, and I'm super excited.


 


 


I just recently submitted my resume and cover letter to my dream job - Market Analyst/Trade Specialist in the Food & Beverage Industry for the Trade Department of the French Embassy.  In their ad they requested "cover letter, resume, and salary requirement."  I have a friend who used to work for the department I'm applying for, and he's going to give me oodles of advice on getting the job, but he wasn't able to get back to me regarding salary range before I sent in my resume.  I put a salary about $10,000 - $12,000 above what my friend told me they normally pay - do you think this will hurt my chances?  How big a part does the salary requirement play in your consideration of whether to invite someone in for an interview?

In my experience (and I have worked in HR for the last 4 years) it is a big factor.  Salary requirements are how they weed through many applicants.  9 times out of 10 if you aren't in their salary range they won't even call...no matter how much they like your resume. 


BTW, I am currently job hunting and every recruiter that I have spoken to has confirmed this for me.  I would try to do some damage control fast if you want this job.  HTH!

Ditto.

From an Employers point of view, I wont hire anyone with such a high salary requirment over what we normally pay because these people usually tend to quit after a short time when they dont end up getting the raise or the money that they want. It makes employers a little leary of the situation ...

I also suggest trying to fix this ...
