Hubby and I are friends with another couple that goes to a goth/industrial/techno club in DC pretty regularly. They invited us to go sometime this month. Hubby and I are not "gothy" but are curious because we love techno and we haven't been clubbing in years (ahh, the joys of living in the suburbs). I asked for fashion advice my friend suggested basically that I should wear a lot of black. Most of my black clothing comes from Banana Republic, so I don't think it's exactly what she had in mind. I'm not super-edgy, so I'd feel really weird wearing say, a patent leather corset or somesuch. Can anyone help me think of something to wear that would blend well at a goth club? I'm willing to go shopping for new stuff, so long as the prices aren't outrageous. TIA!
OKay, so I've never been to a goth club, and I kind of get confused as to the details of goth/punk/metal, so you can take my suggestions with a grain of salt. But these are things I would wear if I were going - things I wish I could wear in everyday life but I just couldn't pull off! Plus if you're from a BR-ish wardrobe, these may be less scary from pinupgirlclothing.com

Something like the second dress that ttara posted would work- maybe you could find something similar with less ribbon. That way you're more you and don't come off as a (and I promise to nevre use this word again) poser. I'd wear a dress like that with fishnets (pick any color you like, have fun), and some edgier platforms. Goth it up with makeup! A corset top and a short skirt with fishnets would be another good option. Vibrant eye makeup is a must, as well. Try some mac pigments, or for less $ Loreal just came out with pigments, as well.
ETA: here's a link to this goth/industrial club in NYC I've been to a view times, should give you more ideas on what to wear http://albionclub.com/v-web/gallery/albums.php
if you do decide to do a corset and skirt, like kmd suggested, they have them for only $20 or $30 at Charlotte Russe (I don't know how widespread this store is, so I don't know if you'd even have one in your mall), and I saw a couple at f21. Just thought I'd say, because if it's an outfit you'll never wear again you might not want to spend a whole lot.

Thanks for all the advice! I don't see myself doing the corset/short skirt thing. In a corset, I feel like I'm doing my best impression of a sausage. My goal is to find something that would let me blend in a bit so I don't look completely out of place. I'm thinking something like this top with a black skirt I already have, some fishnets and my black knee boots and some vampy nail polish like Kari suggested.
