commuting on new jersey transit?

Not sure exactly which area you're looking in but I've taken the PATH and Ferries a lot between NYC and NJ. I have a lot of friends that have moved to Jersey City and they can get downtown NYC on the PATH faster than from the UES or UWS. The only problem sometimes is getting home late at night since the trains may run slow and a NYC cab driver is going to charge you a lot to go into NJ.

Coworkers that have to take the trains into NJ from Hoboken it seems to take them a while to get home but they manage okay and do it every day. Most of them take the Ferry or PATH to Hoboken and then the NJ trains from the station in Hoboken.

Before you decide on a place practice the commute so you can get a feel for the distance and how long it will take.

I definitely want to practice the commute first -- that's a good idea. I have friends who have done it and it doesn't sound too bad; the only main complaints I've heard are during snowstorms, but everyone gets a harder commute then anyway.

The place is in Kearny. I haven't been there, but I Googled the town and found they have a website. It looks like a cute place.

i do!

it's definitely an easy commute - but it does depend on what line your stop runs on. my line is called the northeast corridor and the trains run frequently and early/late. there are a lot of lines that don't have any trains that leave nyc until after 10/11 which is awful if you want to go out after work.

i would also try to run through the commute a few times. i hated it when i did it for a week. people are pushy, etc. but now i like it. it's very clean and you can sleep/read on your way to/from work.

also, my old roommate was from kearny and loved living there. also, i would check out any light rails around you b/c apparently there are a lot of new ones coming up.

i figure people on the subway are so pushy that nj transit can't be too different, but i'll give the commute a try and see how it goes!

Okay light rail is awesome! Just wanted to say that off the bat.

What I really like about NJ transit commuting is that the systems are all integrated. With a monthly bus or train pass you can ride the light rail for free! :)

I live in Hoboken, which is a little closer to the city, but I like having so many options for commuting. The buses run really often in the morning and I usually can always get a seat. My bf uses light rail, PATH and NJT train daiy.

Only boo is that the service aside from Path (which isn't NJT) stops running around 1am or 2am.

We are getting more and more excited about this. We're seeing two places on Saturday, one in Bayonne and the other in Kearny. The Kearny one sounds like it's exactly what we're looking for, and it's right on the PATH, which goes virtually right to where my BF works. It would be so nice to have more space and be able to have a car!
