ISO Atlanta Lucky Shopping Guide/general recs.
Permalink Closed

I *think* Lucky did a shopping gudie on the ATL sometime in 2004...I remember reading about Blue Genes, among other places. However, I don't have any copies of the mag from before April '05. If anyone has this on file, I would greatly appreciate it being faxed or a copy mailed to me...I know it's a long shot, but I want a good jumping off point for shopping out here.

I ended up getting an apartment in Midtown, so if anyone has some shopping suggestions close by that would be really awesome.

I'm not sure if you've looked, but on  LUCKYMAG.com they do a city shopping guide also.

Heres the one for Atlanta. It seems like they have tons of stores listed, altohugh I'm not sure which would be in your area.

you're right, Lucky did do a guide sometime summer of 04 I think...i have a copy that a former poster graciously sent to me last year, so the least i can do is return the favor...PM me your fax number and i can go fax it right now for you.

i'm not sure where in midtown you are (the definition is a bit nebulous)...but here's a few boutiques i can think of that are in midtown:

Fab'rik - on West Peachtree between 13th and 14th

K-La - just reopened in Atlantic Station (which otherwise, is mostly chain stores)

Shoemaker's Warehouse - Amsterdam Walk

Sage - 1745 Peachtree, in a shopping center with a Kroger and Borders

Veruca - 814 Juniper

Virginia-Highlands and Little Five Points are fun too, and not super far from Midtown

Where in midtown are you living?  I lived on 6th street between Peachtree and West Peachtree (by the Biltmore).  Anyway, I second the recommendation on Fabrik and I also love the Shoemakers Warehouse.

The following were my favorite of Lucky's recommendations when I lived there...

Beehive Co-Op 1831A Peachtree Rd. 404-351-1166 beehiveco-op.com Twenty-five designers are showcased here, and each one gets a partitioned space, which give the loftlike shop the feel of an indoor market. The selection ranges from streamlined furniture and retro-designed pillows to table runners, stitched bags, and brightly printed sundresses.

Bella Azul 1101-B Marietta St. 404-249-9150 bellaazul.com This off-the-beaten shop in the hip Westside stocks exquisite Catharine Malandrino suits and See by Chloe tops, plus other designer separates from Punk Royal to Barbara Bui and Iceberg. Also find a well-edited selection of products for the home, including candles from John Hardy and martini glasses by Michael Weems, and bath and body products from Fresh and Archive.

Blue Genes 3400 Around Lenox Dr. NE bluegenesatlanta.com Expect to find a massive wall full of the latest denim darlings and styles in this spacious and sleek Buckhead shop, as well as super-stylish separates from L.A.M.B., Vivienne Westwood, Phillip Lim, Ginger and Java, Catherine Malandrino, Frost French, and Fake London. Run by three sisters, the spacious boutique has recently expanded to include menswear and kids clothing.

Fab'rik 1114 W. Peachtree St. 404-881-8223 5161 Peachtree Pkwy., Norcross 702-446-3122 227 Sandy Springs Pl., Ste. 384 404-252-2202 This is a reliable place for sexy and affordable out-on-the-town looks. Find favorite denim from Joe's, James, Rock & Republic, Tag, Blue Cult, AG, Earnest Sewn, Antik, Sacred Blue, and accessories by local designers.

Havens 3209 Paces Ferry Pl. 404-239-0411 havensonline.com A well-edited selection of hard-to-find lines you don't see everywhere, including A Common Thread and Krisa Larson, defines this super-feminine two-story boutique.

Intermix 3500 Peachtree Rd. 404-846-8446 We could easily be content to never shop anywhere but this Phipps Plaza newcomer, known for its inspired and inventive mix of clothing and labels, from Sonia Rykiel sundresses to Tevrow + Chase skirts and cargo pants from Vince Twill.

Jeffrey Atlanta 3500 Peachtree Rd. NE, Ste. A3 404-237-9000 This Phipps Plaza mini-department store offers the best selection of clothes, jewelry, and home goods, with customer service that is unmatched. Don't miss the stellar shoe department next door.

Kelly's Closet 1649 McLendon Ave. 404-377-9923 kellyscloset.net Tucked away in quiet Candler Park, this unassuming boutique is best known for its stock of Aussie designers, including Sass and Bide, Paablo Nevada, Alannah Hill, Gwendolynne, and Lisa Ho.

Lisa Brown Atlanta 6301 Roswell Rd. 404-255-4949 Located in the retail-friendly Sandy Springs neighborhood, this is the area's top spot for wardrobe pick-me-ups like Shoshana dresses and Alvin Valley trousers.

Sugar Britches 491 Flat Shoals Ave. 404-522-9098 This boutique put East Atlanta shopping on the map. Find rocker-inspired lines like London's Wheels and Doll Baby, Grail jeans, plus camisoles and dresses by Tracy Reese, and Virgins, Stains & Angels belt buckles, rings, and necklaces.

Veruca 814 Juniper St. 404-815-9977 The charm of this boutique, perched in a midtown bungalow, is topped only by the standout lines like Rachel Pally, Tom Nguyen, and Triple Five Soul

Now my most important recommendation for shopping is shopping for a good meal!  In Midtown, I highly recommend the Flying Biscuit for breakfast (corner of 10th and Piedmont - middle of midtown).  Order the organic pancakes with peach compote.  To Die For.... Yummy, yummy.  For Dinner I recommend Einstein's.  It is on Juniper street.  North of 10th... can't remember exact cross street.  It is in a Craftsman style/restaurant conversion type home thingy.  Anyway, food is excellent.  For a quick drink after work, I would have recommended Shout or Twisted Taco when I lived there, but I hear those places are tired now.

Have fun in ATL.  I think you are gonna love it.  If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me.  I'm a Southern Cal girl now, but I'll always have a bit of the ATL in my heart!
