I'm normally not a huge spender but I buy a few things on a month to month basis. Right now I'm absolutely sick of my wardrobe and feel the need to get some things to augment my wardrobe. I'm thinking about spending about $1,000 mostly on accessories and some things like a black dress (which I have picked out) that I don't have, but would really like.
Help me come up with some ideas for things to perk up my wardrobe. And if you have any coupon codes, please let me know!
-Great belts. I love belts right now. Some classic ones and some trendier ones.
-A bold necklace. This could be paired with your little black dress or dress up jeans and a tee.
-A cashmere cardigan in a great color (the second isn't cashmere, but I love the color. You can wear on its own or with a tee for more casual or over a lingerie-style cami for more dresst.
-Headbands. I love these because they can make a simple outfit look more interesting and add a punch of color. You can find a lot of cute, cheap ones on ebay.
I love ebay for finding cool pieces that no one else will have- maybe put $100 or so into finding cool necklaces/bags/shoes etc from there as well. I like searching vintage bags by color. Also- what is it that you want in your wardrobe to style with- but never have? For me its:
*long cardigans
*black tights
*vintage oxfords/granny shoes
*riding boots
*a pair of tall peeptoe fall shoes- maybe in a suede- that are comfortable and can be worn with black tights/trouser socks
*smaller bags for going out- maybe one or two more
*a rose gold necklace
*a couple more long necklaces
*another pair of dark jeans- straight leg, not lowrise, and very basic
*red skinny belt
*native american beaded jewelry
I love pants, interesting bags and shoes, skinny belts, and sweaters.
I know what i DONT style with, and it is:
bracelets- I have a few I love already
rings- I already have the ones I wear, for the most part
earrings- i keep black pearl studs in 99% of the time
skirts/dresses- i'd like maybe another skirt- but usually I prefer pants in the winter, just because its not practical for work and it gets so cold here
What is your list- I'd love to try to find some cute things, but I'm not really sure what you're looking for.
Pants. I have basic black, brown, and grey, but I don't have anything terribly interesting.
Skirts and dresses. Same as above, I have the basics, but nothing more interesting than that for winter.
Jeans. I'd like a pair of darker straight jeans.
Bold, statement jewelry. I'd like some more necklaces and bracelets. I have a few things picked out, but a few more would help.
Belts and scarves. I have like none.
Cardigans. Again, I have some basic colors, black, grey, pink, but nothing very exciting.
Tights.
Things I don't want/won't wear:
Earrings. Can't wear them. Sucks!
Leggings. I just won't.
That's about it. I have a pretty standard hourglass figure and so pants are always tricky for me. I look best in jewel tones, and as much as I love navy blue, I can't for the life of me figure out how to wear it, so that's not a great option. If you want to see pics of stuff I have, I'm ncshopper on mystylediary if that helps.
I just looked through your StyleDiary. You have a lot of great things. I think you should get a lot of accessories that you love, and some cute, dressier tops. Play around with the things you have now...put together outfits that you wouldnt normally think of. Something I like is pairing a summer-y skirt with a sweater and boots, or tights and pumps. Also like Lynnie said, see what you would want to complete the outfits you make. Would it look great with a new belt, or a great necklace?
I'll come back and post any ideas that I think of. HTH!!
NCshopper, I really like that gold chain necklace you bought! I have a similar one, and I can assure you that you'll get a lot of use out of it... I find that it adds punch to basic tops and dresses, and yet it's still conservative enough for work.
